I've been told it's possible to charge a Motorola Razr V3 from a PC. Have
installed the drivers and connected via USB but nothing happened. Anything
    else I can try?

"Charge your mobile directly from your PC. Save on having to carry bulky
mains chargers or worry about available power supplies.
Simply plug the USB Charger Lead into any PC or Apple Mac with a USB socket
and plug into your phone for charging on the go. Perfect for when your phone
is hooked up to your computer or you're at your desk!"

Complete waste of money. The V3 uses a bog standard mini USB cable for sync
and charge, but will not charge from a computer unless the Motorola modem
driver is installed. The driver is on the Motorola website but is in the
developer section for some strange reason so the OP will have to register to
    download it.

We haven't got a charger for the phone or anything that would have
originally have come with the phone. Have it plugged in with USB to mini USB
and with the Motoral drivers for charging this way, but can't get it to
    work.

Then either your cable is borked, or the charging port, or possibly the USB
port on the computer isn't providing enough current.

Are you sure, I had a V3i which I charged from my work pc. I use the
miniUSB lead that came with the office blackberries and did not load
any Moto software. A few of my colleagues try to connect their V3s but
it would never work for them. I think this feature was not in the
    original V3 spec.

I thought it was perhaps because it iis totally flat so can't switch it on,
    so PC can't detect it?

That is certainly a possibility. The manual with my L6 stated the phone
couldn't be charged from flat via the USB.

My L6 charges happily from the USB port (drivers are installed).

I suspect that may be the OP's problem. I had exactly the same issue
during by brief stint as a V3 user. On certain machines it would start
to charge as long as the PC was plugged in but not turned on (depending
on how the motherboard delivered power to the USB ports). Boot to
Windows and it would stop charging, unless the drivers were installed in
which case it would start charging again once the drivers loaded.

At one point I went overseas armed with a Sony laptop, V3 and cable, but
forgot to install the phone drivers. To charge the phone I had to put a
boot security option into the laptop's BIOS and leave it sitting at the
password screen so the V3 could charge from the USB port.

I'm honestly not sure whether it's Microsoft or Motorola who are to
blame for this one, but it was damned annoying.

Have installed the drivers twice, but it still won't charge, will try with
    windows off.
