#1 | | Guest | Hi friends,
I want to upgrade my phone from a Nokia 6230i to something better!
(Budget = £100 max)
I liked the 6230i a lot, except that I couldn't read the tiny letters
on the keypad (partly because they were poorly illuminated) and found
the size of the phone a little too small (easily lost). The power-on
switch was a little slow to activate too (press and hold). The GPRS
and the expandable memory were great features, as was the long battery
life and MP3 playing ability.
I'd like to be able to access some kind of GPS with the next phone, as
I go trekking, yachting and travelling a fair bit. My sight isn't that
hot, so a bigger screen would be nice. I don't play games, but am a
sucker for innovative features that are of some practical use.
Any suggestions? TIA!
Jake D

Increase your budget and purchase a Microsoft smartphone or a Nokia N-
series, these phones can run other applications, specifically GPS
navigation systems, for example tomtom.

For someone who wants a big screen and sat-nav? I hope you don't work in
a phone shop!

Thanks - yes, I was wondering if an N70 might be good, as it's just
about within my budget now. Is the N70 a good phone? Or should I
stretch to the N-something-else?
Cheers,

The N70 would do the job adequately, yes. I didn't think of that one
because it's not a current model.

No, it isn't. And it' would not be very good for GPS navigation either.

OK - thanks very much for your guidance.

Avoid Windows Mobile devices like the plague.
They're ****!
At this time of night I can't be bothered expanding much beyond that.
Don't rely on one as your primary phone. Software is atrocious,
touch-screens need recalibrating every time the wind changes.
I've given them chance after chance (Two Orange branded ones, one
full-price HTC one from Expansys). My latest is used solely as an
expensive Tom-Tom as it can't be relied on for much else.
Avoid, avoid, avoid! | | | |

At this point in time I can only be be bothered to counter your
statement with "no, they are great. I've had several and they've all
been superb".

Quite simply, that is not true.

Well I've had several and they haven't been

Which part? Software or the screen?
Anyway, I'm pleased you're happy with yours, but they aren't a phone for
serious use IMHO. | | | |

Both, in my experience.

Your opinion is respected of course, but that does not make it
universally apply to the entire HTC range.
