#1 | | Guest | What is it with SE phones and dust getting trapped inside the screen?
Why has it been happening continually, for years and years, from one
revision to the next, and nothing has ever been done about it?
I had a SE in 2005 (can't remember the model) and got it replaced within
a fortnight due to the amount of dust gathering inside.
Within a fortnight, same happened again. So I got a refund.
I've just bought a k550i, and guess what? It's happening again.
I search on the internet and discover messages going right back to 2003
regarding Sony Ericsson phones getting dust trapped behind the screen,
and people taking them apart to clean them. Not acceptable. I'm not
invalidating the warranty just to clean my phone, nor am I taking it to
the service centre every time dust starts to build up (once a fortnight
apparently).
This latest one hasn't been kept in a dusty area, not stored in my
pocket but the SE ICE-25 case, only taken out when needed, but two weeks
later minor dust build up is evident? What will it be like next month?
Heck, will I even want it by Christmas?
So it goes back.
Thing is: I *love* SE phones. They have an intuitive GUI and this
latest one has great camera quality, a good signal and is very responsive.
But it's going back for a full refund due to an ancient problem that's
apparently plagued every single SE handset since the early 2000s. Sheesh.

Does it say it's protected to IP65 or 54?

Had no problem with the T610 but the K700i was full of the stuff! Had a
K610i now since May and it's fine, not a spec of dust that I can see. | | | |

I have no idea, but I was entitled to a full refund if not satisfied
within 28 days, and today I got it. =)

I've heard that the dust situation is a bit hit and miss. We could do
with a site .. maybe sonydustphone.com, which lists the dust
vulnerability of various models.
Now I've got a refund, I was thinking of getting the SE k810i but if I
find a single complaint on the internet about dust inside the screen,
I'll forget that idea. I'd _really_ like the k850i when it's released
next month but erm...probably not a good idea to pay the inevitably high
price given past experience.
