Hi All
I would like to install a hands free kit for my new Nokia 6120 classic phone
so that I have a cradle which can hold/charge the phone securely, a
discretely fitted in-car microphone and the audio output from the car's
speakers. I would prefer a hard wire installation as opposed to a Bluetooth
solution. I know nothing about in-car electrics, except that my car does NOT
have a cigarette lighter socket, so the power will have to come from
somewhere behind the dashboard. (I drive a Vauxhall Vectra, just in case
that's relevant to my query).
I have some issues/questions, hopefully people will voice (type) their
opinions...
1) What would be a reasonable price for a kit + installation?
2) Can anyone recommend a company or a merchant from personal experience?
Many thanks.

I run a SAAB and there is a very good user forum which has some useful
advice on carphone installation based on members' experience. Maybe
there is a similar one for Vauxhall which can add to the advice you get
here. From a quick google <Www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk> is one, as
is <www.vectra-sport.com> - there may be more.
As a GM product the Vectra might be like the SAAB which is pre-wired for
mobile, even has a microphone in the header rail. You use a standard
Nokia in car kit, and a custom link cable which just plugs in to a
socket on the SAAB loom behind the radio. That makes fitting easy so
the costs are not too bad. The hardware is not cheap though. I think
my SAAB dealer was quoting about £200 fitted but I am sure you can get
it below that. Have a good look in the car handbook.
You could phone your local vauxhall dealer and get a price as a
'reference point' but unless they are a very good dealership you might
not want to trust them with your car electrics. If the car is new(ish)
watch out for any warranty conditions: if it is installed by a third
party the dealer might use it to cop out of any warranty claims relating
to car electrics.
Add what you are told here to what you find on the car forums and you
should get all you need.

Unfortunately Nokia have done away with the pop-port connector and
have used mini-usb on most of their latest handsets including the
6120c.
This basically means a proper wired carkit solution from Nokia is no
longer possible, not that it was possible with many pop-port series 60
handsets anyways.
Best you can do at the moment is probably the latest version of the
CK-7W supplied with the charging cable CA-116 and the universal holder
CR-39 and connect via bluetooth and plug the charging cable in when
needed, a very untidy solution in my opinion.
You could always wait and hope a third party like brodit or THB comes
up with a solution.
I can recommend http://www.siocommunications.co.uk/Forum/index.php for
help and advice. Terry (the owner) can supply everything you need, and
even fit if you are north of the border. I have purchased from him via
mail order in the past.
Sam.
