Mobiles without Lens Covers - bad idea ?

Notice all the new nokias i've seen (please advise if i'm wrong) seem to be
these very nice and slim
models but no lens protection

isn't this asking for trouble ?

whereas the sony's seem to be lens protected

and i guess samsungs as well with their sliders

My old Nokia didn't have a lens cover and I never had any problems, my
n95 does have a lens cover and I've never had any problems. My old
RAZR didn't have a lens cover and I didn't have any problems either.
