Agreed. When I restart the phone I get "accessory not supported"
and the phone is silent (no beeps on usage, no ring tone).
I inserted my (freebie, never used) earpiece,
and got a little "headset" icon.
But on removing the earpiece, I got the "old" problem
back.

So I agree with your diagnosis of ****ty contacts
in the accessory socket.
Anyone got any tips or advice on cleaning this?
