Perhaps it's the kind of 'dick' who is somewhere without a fixed internet
connection, ie pretty much anywhere outdoors.

A modern phone will provide 3G access via blue tooth and a monthly cost
similar to that of fixed line broadband. Usefull for Students who are only
in residence 6 months of the year...

Or someone living at home with a selfish father who refuses to share
the broadband connection that he has already got. Yep got one next
door, the old git is on the top service on cable cable, has got a wifi
router & yet refuses to share with his own son, but wants me to help
set up a wifi link to his WII...

There must be names for people like that

On the other hand one of the lads I work with won't let his dad any where
near his broadband. He has the top service from NTL and he says his dad
ruins his lag on gaming.....

Well if his son has a PC/laptop with a wireless connection you could
always 'leak' the settings.

If Daddy-dearest can't set up a wireless link to a Wii on his own he's
unlikely to be able to spot the extra connection...

Only thing is that son is to stupid to keep his mouth shut if I did
that...

Apologies to Mancunians who can tell the difference between positive and
negative numbers but I suspect that "thick as a Farrel" is about to enter
the language...

Is someone with an IQ of -6 more thick or less thick than someone with an IQ
of -8? ;-)

Yes. I don't use a mobile phone and will be staying somewhere without
a landline.

Then you have three options, none of which is feasible for a
short-term stay.

1) buy satellite broadband and install a dish where you're staying.

2) pay for a cableco to run you a cable. Not going to happen..

3) buy a leased line. Cost is tens of K.

If you want a quick option, get a cheap PAYG mobile, use it as a modem
and bin it when you're done. It'll cost a bomb in call charges but if
your location has coverage it would work.

Did anyone suggest this ?
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobil...t/pay-monthly/

It uses a USB mobile modem not a phone.
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobil...odem/overview/

3GB per month @ £20 or 10GB @ £35

Graham

I tried the Three mobile broadband service, with Huawei E220 USB
modem, last month. In my office (3G, 5 bars) I once saw 400kbps, but
didn't manage an average of better than 300kbps. At home (3G, 2 bars)
I never got better that 45kbps.

The modem went back the next day and my contract was cancelled.
