I've just updated my n95 to the v12 firmware and I've got a new
    Application called "IM"

I go in and it asks for server name, username, password, etc. but I
can't work out what the application is actually for.

Has anyone configured their IM application to do anything or can you
point me in the direction of a website which might give me more info
about what it is and how to configure it?

f you go to Nokia discussions, as distinct from the developers forum,
you will see that there are postings about the mystical 'IM'. Just
    enter
    n95 im
    in the search box!

Aha... a bit useless for any popular IM clients

If you want to do IM you could download a Java application to do the
    job.

The IM application is for Instant Messaging like Windows Live Messenger,
Yahoo IM, AIM, ICQ, etc.. Its a bit useless this application as no one will
supply the server address for the normal person to use directly from the
    Nokia IM app.

If you go to the "Download!" application on your N95 and inthe 'WinLive'
folder you will be able to download Windows Live Messenger to use for IM and
    email.

Out of interest, goes the upgrade improve the N95's performance in anyway,
    noteably the RAM leakage?

Think they are some sort of Biker Gangs or Clubs???
BOTAFOT = Bikers Of The A Four One Three (A413)

Can't (be bothered to) find out what the others mean...

    It's stuff from uk.rec.motorcycles.

LOTR = Lord of the Rat (To do with Whinging Courier rat bike)

SKOGA = Shakey Knowledge of Geography Award ("Wales is only 200 miles
    west of England")

DS = Ditchsurfer (crashing a bike so badly that a ***** is made by it
    - often hurts very much, and it did)

BOTAFOT = Bikers of the A Four One Three (A413)

BOTM = Bikers of the Marsh (as above, but on the Marsh in southern
    Kent)

FBOTY = First Bin of the Year (First person to crash their bike in the
    year)

PM = Petrol Muppet (Running out of petrol due to not having brain in
    gear)

Exellent - I found loads of illegal versions of it but have just
installed this one and it appears to work via WiFi and 3G - thanks!

It hasn't told me that it's run out of memory since the upgrade, but I
didn't often get that error in the past but I understand that memory
management is much improved in this release from what others have
    said.

It seems slightly more responsive to my input (but it's not that the
old v11 firmware was slow either) and the battery life appears to be
    reported more accurately.

What I'm not pleased about is that when t9 was in use (most of the
time) I could go forward and backwards with suggested words by
pressing up or down but now to select alternative words one has to use
the * button. I preferred it the old way but I'll get used to it.

aGPS seems to give a more accurate lock more swiftly than in the
normal GPS in the old version of the firmware.

Glad I could help. Anything else you need I've probably got on my "gerrymoth

I had a generic N95 with v12 firmware in it and it was forever telling me
its low on memory. I use Epocware's Handy Taskman (http://epocware.mobi) for
me to find out how much RAM I have left at any given time, comes in handy
for killing apps you don't know are open. With my N73 thats how I realised
they had improved the RAM Management on it cos I can see once I've closed an
app that the memory is reclaimed back where before it was lost forever, like
    the N95 still does.

I might be incorrect, but I think the n95 8GB has the same firmware as
the v12 n95. Some websites seem to claim that it swaps applications
out of the RAM when they're not needed, but I could be wrong and might
well be wrong about the n95 having the same firmware as the 8GB model.

I only had a memory problem on the n95 a handful of times in the
period I've owned it so I'm probably not the best judge of the
improvement in memory management of the new firmware over the old

It just seems a bit more responsive than it was before, oh, and
instead of it saying "1 new email" at me when I infact had 8 it now
just says "new email" - but hardly groundbreaking!
