I recently took out an 18 month contract with 3 (PAC'd over from
Orange PAYG), and a free fone. What id like to know is what happens
after those 18 months?
1)Will i get notification well in advance?
2)Will i get the option to roll the contract on, using my current
priceplan?
3)If i dont do anything will i lose the number?
4)Is there a way to pre-arrange the issuing of a new contract (or PAC
code) that automatically starts when the old one runs out?
5)Will i get a new fone?
6)If the answer to #5 above is 'no', can i get a PAC code, take it to
a different 3 store and take out a contract with them, and score a
free fone on the way?
Also, if i damage my current fone, would it be possible to cancel the
contract and PAC to a different network, wait 30 days, then PAC back
to 3 and score a fresh fone on a new 18-month contract? (thinking that
the £30 cancellation charge or whatever it is and £15 for a cheap and
nasty old mono nokia from a 2nd hand shop is a lot cheaper than £200
or so for a fresh fone or the £400 or so repair charge)

IME, nothing happens, you just carry on paying whatever you're paying
now.It is in the phone companies interest to keep you on the present
contract - they know you can get a better deal going elsewhere, so keep
quiet.
To get a better deal, you need to give them a ring to either upgrade
your phone, or get a cheaper deal, keeping you present phone.

Well, the first thing to understand is that it isn't a 18 month
contact, its a rolling contract with a minimum 18-month term.

Doubtful

this will happen automatically if you do nothing.

No
> 5)Will i get a new fone?
If you choose to upgrade then yes, but then you'll be signing/agreeing
to another minimum 18-month term.

Highly doubtful.

Unless you notify them of your intention to cancel, then that is exactly
what will happen.

No, see above.

Not that I know of

Not without asking for one.

A PAC code is only required if you're changing networks. You'll probably
find that you'll get a better deal by transferring to another network and
starting a fresh contract.

No, not if you're still within the 18 month contract.

Your "free fone" is paid for by most of what you pay monthly. If you
tell them you don't want a new phone but want to carry on with the
contract, they'll offer you a big rental cut - someone on here said
from £35 down to £5 on 3! For the same package of mins/texts!
You can get a pretty decent phone for £540 (18 months time the
difference), so don't bother pissing around with new contracts with
"free fones", they're generally a rip-off. Unless you can be arsed
with complicated cashbacks and trust the retailer to deliver.

Or you call them near them when the 18 months is near up and ask for the PAC
so you can leave. At that point they may offer you deals not to leave like a
new phone and a reduction in line rental or both. They will want to lock you
into anothet 18 or 12 month deal though. If they give the PAC anyway but
don't want to leave just do nothing and after 1 month the PAC will lapse.

Notofocation of what?

That will happen unless either party takes some action.

Yes, ring them up one month before the end date.

You might if you used proper English.

<SuperPendant Mode>
actually, it should really be " 'phone " (with an apostrophe)
as it is an abbreviation of telephone.

So evidently you're unaware of the Murphy's First Law of Usenet which
states that whenever a poster criticises somebody else's grammar or
*****ing, it is guaranteed that they will make a comparable or worse
error themselves, in that same post?

Well, obviously. Why? I'm not doing any harm, and even make the occasional
vaguely useful post...
