    Hi all.

I'm looking for some info on using Three PAYG on my 6630 -
    specifically accessing mobile internet services.

Currently i'm using Orange 3G and have been buying their '7 days
access for £5' bundle for the past month.
It allows me to use any mobile internet app and even connect my laptop
using my 6630 as a bluetooth modem (don't think that's officially
    allowed so mum's the word!).

However now that the novelty of unlimited mobile internet access is
wearing off i think that £5 a week is more than i want to pay.
So i'm thinking of buying a Three PAYG sim card - my 6630 is unlocked
so no problems there - and using the £5 a month Internet Monthly.

I've spent a while browsing the Three website and found just
superficial info so hope someone on this group can supply a bit of
    detail...
What can i access using Internet Monthly?

Can i use Opera Mini as well as my 6630's built in browser?
Can i use my 6630's built in email client?
Can i use Profimail to access emails?
Will apps like Google Maps and Agile Messenger work?
If Google Maps (or any other apps) won't work with the Internet
Monthly add-on then can i still use it but pay for access out of my
sim credit at £1 a MB?

Can i still access mobile internet if not in a 3G coverage area?

Windows Live Messenger is currently being promoted as free until the
end of 2007 - any idea what it will cost in 2008, will i just need an
internet add-on to be able to use it?
I'm assuming my 6630 is compatible with the official Three Messenger
client - but will i be able to use (download) it if my 6630 is not
    branded by Three?

A lot of questions - hope you can all supply some answers!

    Thanks.

    Martin.

I've only been on Three since yesterday, so I can't answer much, but I'd
certainly be interested in any other answers anyone else can come up
    with.

Also, if you port your number across to Three, they give you £10 free
credit, 7 days after the number is transferred.

    >What can i access using Internet Monthly?
    >

So far I'm I've just used the 50p per day option, to see how much I'm
actually going to use it. I'm assuming you get charged 50p once per day
and not every time you go online that day? I notice you get a warning
every time you go online that it costs 50p per day or do I want to buy
    the internet add on.

    >Can i use Opera Mini as well as my 6630's built in browser?

Yes you can. I just used the standard browser that came on my N73 (not
sure what it is, I only go the phone yesterday and I'm still getting the
hang of it :-) ) I found that I couldn't access some sites as they were
blocked (presumably by Three?) a quick Google search suggested using
Opera Mini, which I downloaded and installed and all is well, works fine
    and no blocked sites.

    Good reply Sean.

I thought i'd get a bit more of a response to my original question but
    it seems like NOT!

Anyway i've just got back home from the local Superdrug store and i
have a new Three sim card with ten quid credit on it.
First purchase will be Internet Monthly, after that i'll transfer
another old number to it and get a(nother) free £10 credit.

I'll keep this thread updated with details of exactly what my £5 a
    month Internet Monthly includes.

    Martin.

(Might have to re-flash and de-brand to Three to enable me to get the
    MSN client download).

I wouldn't bother reflashing just to get 3MSN, you have the internet add-on,
just download an alternative multi messenger application or download the
Window Live Messenger from mobile.msn.com using the built-in browser?

Well earlier this morning i registered the SIM card and bought the
Internet Monthly add-on using the My3 webpage and my desktop PC.
(Internet add-ons not available on 444).

The Three 3G and MMS settings automatically added themselves to my
    6630 settings by the way.

Tried My 6630's built in browser - got nothing.
Tried Opera Mini - Symbian connection error!
Tried Agile Messenger - failed to connect.

Just rang Three customer services on 333 and spoke to an Asian
    sounding gentleman.
Told him the problem and said i was using a non-Three (unbranded)
    6630.

He said that no internet access was available for me and it was only
available for Three branded handsets :-(

I think a Three branded handset has security certificates installed
    that are needed to connect.

Planning to try branding my 6630 to Three later and hope that will
    work.
Hope Three branding isn't too bad - my 6630 was originally branded by
Orange and had that awful Orange Homepage - i was really pleased to
    get rid of that.

I'll post again with the results of my re-branding.

    Martin.

That's bollocks. You don't need to rebrand to 3 fw to get the net working.
I've put my 3 sim in a unlocked Orange phone and got working. Just make sure
the internet access point is three.co.uk and usernname/password are blank.
Just got my friend a 3PAYG sim and got working in his O2 N73 with no
    problems.

PS: Are you sure the add-on has been activated?

Well they've taken £5 off my £10 credit to pay for the Internet
    Monthly.
Ringing 444 option 1 for a credit balance informs me i have £5 credit
left and my Internet Monthly add-on will expire on Jan 12th 2008.
And online via my desktop pc to My3 shows the Internet Add-on too.

Looks like it should work heh?
But still my 6630 won't connect to anything.

I'm now Googling for a suitable Three branded 6630 product code but
    haven't found one yet.

I wonder if it's worth paying my mate a visit and seeing if my PAYG
Three sim works in his contract Three LG??? and if his LG will connect
    to the internet...

    Good news!

I just got the Three settins sent to my 6630 from:
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4144889

Set the new settings as default access point and voila - both built in
browser and Opera Mini now working.

Built in email client doesn't seem to work but i was half expecting
    that it wouldn't.

And Agile Messenger is working too - i'm pleased about that as i'll
not need the official Three Messenger client (i think i'd only get
    that if branded to Three).

Plans to re-brand my 6630 to Three now abandoned.

    Martin :-)

You can setup a 3mail account on your phone to receive email (All 3mail
received is free to download, doesn't matter what size it is), but haven't
been able to send with my 3PAYG, anyway 3 charge 10p for just text email
    anyway.

On my 3Skypephone I use GoogleMail app http://gmail.com/app for email and
also just use Opera Mini to access gmail website directly
    http://mail.google.com.

Right, just to answer my own questions and keep this thread updated
here's what i've found with a PAYG Three sim card in my unbranded,
    unlocked 6630.

    Apps that work:
    ===============

    Built in browser.

Built in email client seems to work now, after originally not working.

    Opera Mini.
    http://www.operamini.com

    Googlemail/GMail email client.
    http://www.google.com/mobile/mail/index.html

    Google Maps.
    http://www.google.com/gmm/index.html

    Profimail email client.
    http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=profimail

    Agile Messenger.
    http://www.agilemobile.com

    PeerBox P2P client.
    http://www.peerboxmobile.com/peerboxmobile

    Reporo chat/IM client.
    http://www.reporo.com/index.jsp

    MicroSky planetarium for mobiles.
    http://www.upto.org/microsky

    YellowFTP a symbian FTP client.
    Homepage not known.

    Apps that don't work:
    =====================

Racoon Mobile Web Server a port of Apache webserver to Symbian
    platform.
    http://opensource.nokia.com/projects/mobile-web-server

And that's the only app i have installed which doesn't seem to work.

So i'm rather pleased with my move to the Three network.
£5 a month instead of £5 a week for more or less unlimited data is a
    bargain to me.

I've just been in touch with Three customer services and am
transferring an old Virgin number to my new Three sim and getting £10
of credit for that - things couldn't get any better i think....!

Connect via bluetooth or cable, just make sure the access point is
three.co.uk and everything else is left blank (Username/Password) and away
    you go!
In the T's & C's it states not for modem use, but I don't think they check
or bother as there are loads of people doing it and no one is getting
charged. What's the worse that could happen, they stop your PAYG sim? They
would only do that after informing you first and if you keep doing it.
Then all you would need to do is buy another one and start again.

Really? I've been sending/receiving a few emails using my Pipex email on
my N73 on 3PAYG and I haven't noticed my balance decreasing, well maybe
a small amount before I went for the £5 per month unlimited internet add
on, certainly not anywhere near 10p per email. I must check.

You will only get charged if you send emails through the smtp.three.co.uk
    outgoing server.
I've set my 3mail to receive from imap.three.co.uk, but send via
smtp.O2.co.uk (Old O2 contract I used to have).

That explains it then. I doubt that I'll use 3mail much, if at all, but
I'll set it to send via my Pipex smtp, just in case I do.
