    Hi,

I am trying to use my backup phone which is a Nokia 6310i and I noticed that the
Line2 menu is not available in the Settings / Call Options menu nor does
pressing the "#" key for 3 seconds work. Can anyone tell me a method for
ebabling Line 2 on this phone which does not cost money ? (I don't really want
to spend out on this phone 'cos it's quite old and is only my backup). I'm
aware of LogoManager and Maestro's Fbus application, but LogoManager isn't free
and I couldn't get Fbus to work (I'm connecting via BT 'cos I don't have the
    serial cable).

    Thanks,

    Boo

Logomanager isn't free, but it is excellent value for money.

This page http://www.unlockme.co.uk/linetwo.html tells you how to do it
    once you have Logomanager.

Go on, spend a few quid, you'll be glad you did.

I did say I am not prepared to invest more money in a phone that I only use as a
    backup.

Is there really no way at all of doing this for free ?

Yes, if you've got the proper cable.

You can't do it over BT.

You've already solved the problem yourself in your first post. Maestro's
Fbus will work fine with the cable, but not over BT.

However, if you're using Vista, all bets are off.

I am a professional Real Time / Embedded software engineer.

I did explain that I don't want to invest money in a phone I am only using as a
back up device. If that makes me tight in your eyes then fine, but I have other
priorities right now than buying software for a phone that hasn't been made
since 2004. You don't by any chance make money from it yourself do you Ivor ?

So my question stands : Is there a free way of enabling the 2nd line feature
that is built into every Nokia 6310i without having to source a a cable or pay
for software ? To save Ivor from jumping in : I don't *expect* other people to
work for free, but if someone has found out how to do this for themselves and
doesn't mind providing the information gratis then I would be grateful for the
    knowhow.

    Many thanks,

    Boo

Tell you what: you send me the phone and I'll send you enough money to
buy a modern handset that supports two lines. After all, your phone
hasn't been made since 2004 so its not worth spending money on, is it?

Well, Ivor, I obviously seem to have unintentionally annoyed you.

All I am trying to do is to use a facility that is built into a phone I already
own while I try to source one that can replace my faulty main handset.

Like you, I do also believe in paying for software that I find useful and have
bought many thousands of pounds worth which I use on various machines. However,
like most people I have to be careful how much I spend, and for what LogoManager
would cost me I can buy a new phone from Argos.

I do not understand what you find objectionable in my trying to enable a feature
on my phone for free ? The feature is not provided by Logomanager and if Nokia
had not peversely disabled it I wouldn't need any software in the first place,
let alone follow your suggestion of writing it. I have not found your replies
to be at all useful or informative and I don't understand why you have responded
so atrangely to a simple usenet request for information ? Maybe now I have
explained in numbing detail my situation you could kindly refrain from
    commenting further.

Thanks Ivor, Happy Christmas and goodbye,

He doesn't. Logomanager is written by Mike Bradley who used to post here
and in alt.cellular.nokia regularly. You don't need LM though, Maestro's
software works just as well in this case.

It's not going to happen unless you buy/beg/borrow/steal the correct cable.
The 6310i is well worth spending money on - to date, nothing Nokia has
produced has surpassed it for sheer reliability. But hey, if you think it's
not worth the price of the cable, I'll give you a fiver for it.

To reply to you and Ian : I'm using the phone only as a back up because the
Joystick on my HTCrap phone has finally given up the ghost. I think you are
right in respect of its reliability and general goodness, but I will only be
using it over Christmas while I sort out another phone, then it goes back in
the drawer until the next emergency. It's bad news there's no easier fix
without the cable but I can always try my local unlocker for the ALS / CSP fix.
Otherwise the hassle involved in getting it to work will outweigh the benefits
    of 4 days use.

Thanks for your advice and help,

    Boo
