Hi Sandy,
Thanks for your feedback.
Although 61 is Australia's country code, "6045507000" is not a valid
Australian number.
After the 61, there should only be nine digits. Furthermore, the first
digit following the 61 will generally be a 2, 3, 4, 7, or an 8.
Regards,
Horace Wachope. | | | |

has hacked the phone system!!
This number appears in a number of fundamentalist Christian forums in
Australia - and various other dodgy places.
It is NOT a valid Australian phone number - it is not a real phone number.
It is the figment of some wierdo's imagination.
BLOCK IT!!!
Most phone systems throughout the world permit blocking of individual
numbers!

Really? Could you explain in a bit more detail how to do that?

#6 | | Guest | a.. Call Screen (*60): Your phone can be programmed to reject calls from
selected numbers with a service called Call Screen (SBC Pacific Bell term;
other phone companies might use a different name). Instead of ringing on
your line, these calls are routed to a recording that tells the caller you
will not take the call. With Call Screen, you can also program your
telephone to reject calls from the number of the last person who called.
This allows you to block calls even if you do not know the phone number.
Most phone companies charge a monthly fee for this service.
Call Screen is not a foolproof way to stop unwelcome calls. A determined
caller can move to a different phone number to bypass the block. Also, Call
Screen does not work on long distance calls from outside your service area.

Are you sure it is Oz. It could be North America number plan padded with a
couple of zeros
616 045 5070
although the second group look doubtful. This would put it in Battle Creek,
Michigan. | | | |

Faked CID as it's an invalid number.
And nice cross-posting there...

Nope, it's a perfectly normal use of SS7 signalling. If you control the
signalling, you can set it to whatever the hell you want.

No, the "045" part doesn't work. Both the area code and the exchange
code in a NA number need to start with a digit in the 2-9 range, 0 and
1 aren't allowed.

In the UK, BT will (or certainly used to) do this. Some years ago, my friend
had problems with nasty phonecalls. BT setup some service on their phone so
that they can type a series of numbers to block calls from a specific
number. Also, they can dial a code during or straight after a phone call to
block further calls from that number. AIUI, if the caller tries to phone
them again from a blocked number, they just get the number not-available
tone...

#14 | | Guest | Recently I was given this no. for "unwelcome calls" in Aust. - if they continue get
back to Telstra. My friend was having trouble and thought it was a certain person
dialing then not answering but it was actually from a free holiday thing - computer
dials 4 nos at once and the 1st to answer gets the call.
I got rid of the same "mob" earlier by telling them because of my age and health
problems there is no way I would/could be interested and to leave me in peace - no
calls since then.
