    Find the manual for your phone and work out what the four-petal icon
    means. The SIM card can only store a limited amount of information, so
    stuff like email addresses, photos and multiple-numbers-per-name in a
    contact may result it being stored on the handset and not the SIM card.
    You could try and find a menu option for copying all your contacts to the
    SIM.

    That seems to be the problem, Absent mindedly I had been storing
    contacts in the phone memory as its default option, so had to go
    through the whole list one by one and transfer them to the SIM card.
