A spammer that asks a question in a newsgroup, then answers it in order
to post spam, how original.
Would anyone buy any products from a company that attempts to deceive
just to try and attract customers?

Im afraid you are incorrect Harry, I am the OP of this thread and it was a
genuine question I asked, not spam, I asked because I have a Nokia phone
that is locked to Orange and I don't wan't to use it on Orange due to the
high cost of International calls, £1.00 per minute to USA seems far too
exsessive to me!!

Why don't you change to the Orange Camel PAYG tariff to get 6p calls to the US?

That's a good solution, though you know you've got a silly tariff
when calling landlines (and mobile phones in many cases) in almost 50
other countries is cheaper than calling landlines in the UK itself.

I might be more tempted to instead use a service like Rebtel, at

http://www.rebtel.com

for the international portion of the call to the USA (for 0.8p/minute),
and then look for a tariff which minimizes the cost of calling the
UK landline numbers which Rebtel uses for dialthrough.

Never tried one, but perhaps you could use one of those stick-on shims? The
sort where you chop a bit off the SIM plastic and then stick on the shim,
which goes between the SIM and the phone. I might be tempted to use one if
I had an non-unlockable phone.

Something like:

(about a fiver from other sellers)

well, assuming the SIM is to be PAYG, that method would actually be
more expensive to USA

the cheapest Orange mvno for USA is IDT at 4 pence a minute

To insert a non-Orange SIM you will still need it unlocked. Google "GID1
lock" for details if you're interested.

Thanks to all who have replied, I was thinking about IDT but failing that
the above seems a good plan if it will work on my Nokia.

To insert a non-Orange SIM you will still need it unlocked. Google "GID1

Hi John,

I did a search on Google for "GID 1 lock" but from what i've read so-far
from one of the links presented
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...d.php?t=733684 it says "GID1 is
usually used so you can't put a SIM from the master network into a phone of
a Virtual." but im trying to put a SIM from a Virtual into that of a master
if that makes any sence ?? Im confused...

Anyway I havn't tried the IDT sim idea yet, maybe it will work or you think
not?

Thanks for your reply, if I go down that route i'll let you know how I get
on.

Cheers

Lebara is hosted on Vodafone UK, local outlets selling the SIM's (Hove) have
some starting 07501 95xxxx though I understand PR text messages are barred
from source so that is good!!
