I sent an MMS message from my Orange phone to my ntlworld email account but
after several hours it has not shown up despite getting confirmation messages on
my phone that the message has been delivered (it worked OK the other day).
Orange still charge my account though ! Is the Orange network going kaput ?

If you get a delivery report it means that the message ahs successfully
been delivered to ntl's mail servers. Beyond that it's down to your ISP.

I've just resent to my yahoo email account and that hasn't appeared either. I
would have thought it unlikely that two ISPs would lose traffic from Orange.

I've had them take a day or two to come through before, or maybe they've
been lost by Orange, or marked as spam or something?

Most have now appeared, one having taken nearly 21 hours. The first ones sent
yesterday at 14:05 BST have yet to appear. The headers show that most of the
time they were stuck in the Orange system. Surely this sort of delay is
    unreasonable.

They are normally quicker, usually minutes. There are no gaurantees
about speed of delivery. Maybe it was just a glitch.

Well they've all arrived at last. Some took over 41 hours. An utter shambles.
Is it just Orange or are other operators as bad ?

Don't know if it's related, but my Orange POP3 inbox has been absolutely
awful for a week until yesterday. IMAP was fine though, strangely enough.

Problem solved - I've switched from Orange to Virgin Mobile. I had to ring
Virgin for the settings to be able to send picture messages, but that was dealt
with in 5 minutes (including going through the menus) on a free call. A test
picture message to my ntlworld account arrived within 5 minutes of sending.
