PAYG query

I'm just about to come to the end of an 18-month contract with BT Fusion and
don't want to have a contract with anyone anymore as it's too expensive
(wife and me hardly use mobiles really - when we do it's just for a couple
of minutes at a time, and we bloody HATE texting; can't get to grips with it
at all).

Apparently we get to keep the handsets we have (Nokia 6136) and I reckon
that the way we use them, a ten-quid top-up will last us at least three
months, maybe a lot longer, so my question is, which network is best for
"long-lasting top-ups"?

In other words, I don't want to get a ten-quid top up and find that it
expires after a couple of months because I haven't used it. It is possible
that I may not even make ten-quids-worth of calls in an entire year so are
there any networks where it would still be active after that length of time?

Asda Mobile PAYG would seem the best bet at the moment, calls cost 8p
per minute to other mobiles and landlines, text are 4p, and there is no
expiry on top-ups as far as I am aware, as long as you make or receive a
chargeable call at least once every 6 months. They are on the Vodafone
network so pretty good coverage, SIM cards are 50p inc. postage when
ordered online, and you even get £1.00 credit thrown in. Customer
service has been brilliant when I have contacted them, so it really is a
very good deal.

The half price numbers with Tesco make their discounted calls nearly as
cheap as Asda's!

It's a no-brainer..........Asda is the champion of the PAYG market.

In the UK credit does not "expire". To keep the phones "alive" you need
to make a chargeable call every x days. With Orange the x=180, most of
the others are also 180, I believe Vodafone x=90.

SO as long as you make a call every couple of months you'll be safe.

Or if you are a heavy user, or if you have a use for Skype?
3 PAYG with Stretch mins/text
e.g. Stretch 21 = 3p per min/txt for a top up of 21quid per month
and Skype included for a month.

I wish there was still a Stretch 21, it's now Stetch 25 = 3.6p/min.
Still a pretty good price, but it is creeping up...
