I have just paid £3.49 for I believed would be an unlock code for my Nokia
    5310 to unlockwarehouse.co.uk.

The reply I've received is below.

This is clearly not what I paid for. The opening line quoted below is
    misleading to say the least.

Do I have any recourse in this?

What are my statutary rights considering I am unhappy with the service
provided and do not want the goods purchased.

Can I demand a refund? Through Paypal?

I realise this is a small amount of money but if I don't make a stand
they'll continue to do it to other unsuspecting people.

    Hi,

I'm Sarah from UnlockWarehouse. If you have any questions about your order
please contact me directly as contact via paypal can take up to 21 days to
    resolve.

We have processed your order to unlock your Nokia 5310 and as stated on the
front of our homepage www.UnlockWarehouse.co.uk "Our solutions include
unlocking codes, guides and software depending on your handset. Guides do
not always contain codes but general information to help you get your mobile
    unlocked with minimal fuss."

Please find below your unlock guide for your mobile. If in the unlikely
event you are still unable to unlock your handset after exhausting all the
options in the guide we can post you out a pay-as-you-go sim card for any of
the UK networks completely free of charge to get your phone running again as
soon as possible. If you require a sim card please reply stating the network
you require and the address you would like it posted to.

If you have any questions please contact me directly via email and I will do
my best to be of assistance.

    Many Thanks,

    Sarah Newton

    Order Details:

    Phone: Nokia 5310
    Locked to: Vodafone
    Order Status: Delivered
    Order Code: 1566049

Step By Step Unlocking Guide for NOKIA 5310

Tip: Always follow these steps in order when trying to unlock your mobile.

Step 1 - Direct from the network

The first thing you should always do is contact your network operator that
the phone is locked to. Inform them you wish to unlock your handset. In many
cases they will provide the unique unlock code for free. If they do you can
now use any simcard in your mobile if they don't then move onto the the next
    step.

Step 2 - Free Software is often available online.

At the time of publishing this guide we were unable to locate free software
that will unlock your exact phone model.

The GSM FORUM has lots of links to free software and your handset may be
    listed there.

    Visit the GSM FORUM at:

    http://www.gsm-forum.eu

If you have tried the software solutions and you are unable to unlock your
handset you must move on to step 3.

STEP 3: Last remaining options - getting the best possible deal

As the cheapest methods have failed to unlock your mobile you are left with
a few options to unlock your Nokia 5310.

You have to shop around and try and get the best deal to get your mobile
unlocked. All networks will provide an unlock code for a fee. Contact them
and find out how much it will cost. Now look online depending on the network
your Nokia is locked to codes wil be available for a range of prices. Always
buy these codes which cost anything from £10 to £30 from a site that
provides a guarantee. We recommend emailing the site first to ensure they
have the code and give you a timescale for providing it.

Once you know both the costs you now know the cheapest code you can acquire
to unlock your mobile. Try market stalls and local phone repair shops to see
if anyone can unlock your make model using hardware for less than the cost
    of a network unlock code.

It's up to you to decide whether to purchase a code or use a local repair
shop. They will both work so price and availibility may be the main factors
    when making this decision.

    Thank you for choosing UnlockWarehouse.

If you have any questions please contact me directly.

I'll bet you they do. Paypal pretty much always refund in favour
    of the buyer.

How is it a con? The guy got exactly what he was offered before any
money was taken. He agreed to it.

Paypal might refund, they might not.

If you're a Voda contract customer, call them and ask them for the code.
They gave me mine for free.

I'd say the implication in the advertising bumf was that if the phone
*could* be unlocked with a code, that code would be supplied. So I'd say it
is a con to say "ask your network if they will kindly unlock your phone for
you, or look on the internet for an unlock code".

Had they said "it is impossible to unlock your phone using a code" that
would have been information worth paying for.

I remember once hearing a story (urban myth perhaps) about an advert
    in the paper:
"No more BT phone bills. Send £5 for information.".

You send £5 and they send you a piece of paper telling you to call 192
    and ask
for your phone line to be disconnected.

    Legal?

Not an urban myth, it was featured on BBC's 'That's Life' back in the
eighties, and was a real advert. I guess some on here would say that wasn't
    a con either.

LOL, I'm kind of glad it wasn't a myth.
