    Wonder if anybody could assist:

I've passed along a "new" and unsued Nokia 6070 to a friend on O2
    PAYG.

Phone was originally supplied by Orange but is unlocked - works OK on
my Orange, Virgin and O2 Postpay SIMS.

On the O2 PAYG sim though calls can be received, as can SMS but when
trying to make any call it responds with "Calls Not Allowed" and
    proceeds no further.

A quick search highlights its not unheard of but I can't seem to find
an answer as to why it does it ? Does anybody know - would unlocking
again with a different code work perhaps ?

Is there anything I can do to sort it out on the phone or is it a case
of asking O2 for a new SIM that would hopefully solve the problem ?

    Thanks in advance.

Could be a setting for where SMS go. That might still be set to Orange, and
you will need to dig around in the menus to fix it. (I accidentally set a
SIM free Mot Ti250 on O2 to use Voda (free offer) for GPRS by puting in
their address the first time (apparently you can't subsequently change it)
perhaps something similar has happened to yours.

I have the phone at the moment but not the O2 PAYG SIM - putting my
Postpay O2 SIM in the SMS message number comes up as the O2 one for
contracts so assume its taking the number from the SIM OK.

I've removed any GPRS Access points although there are some reminants
of Orange Settings within "Web" settings. I've used the Nokia site to
send O2 Prepay settings which can now be selected but whether that
will change anything I dunno. I'l see if it has made any difference
    later.

Why would these effect outgoing voice calls though ??

If I try to speak to O2 though I'm not sure what sense I would get out
of them - do O2 charge for replacement PAYG SIMS does anybody know ?

    Thanks again for the input.

Sorry misread it - I thought you said SMS failed.

Possibly not a complete unlock then...

No worries - it does send SMS OK with the O2 PAYG SIM so other than
not allowing any outgoing calls it works OK in every other way on the
    O2 PAYG.

Put any other SIM in I have access to and calls are OK.

Not sure which code generator I used to unlock it but I'll see if I
have a print out of the codes stored somewhere and maybe try another
    one/again.

    Thks

Is it really possible to unlock a phone so that incoming calls and outgoing
texts work but not outgoing calls? I've not heard of that.

It sounds like a network thing. Maybe they have some kind of IMEI-based
barring where you have to register the phone on PAYG? Might be worth
    asking.

Have you tried the SIM in another phone ?

How old is the PAYG sim? ISTR that the early o2 sims only worked with the
    phone supplied? Philips?

I've not heard of it either.

I don't think so as the SIM was originally supplied with an "O2 phone"
but for the last few years been used in an unlocked Samsung C100
    without a proble.

I can only guess it is SIM related though.

It works OK in an unlocked Samsung C100 and has been for quite a while
    now.

It will be a few years old and originally supplied with an O2 PAYG
phone - if I recall it was one of old Ericsson "A series". Last few
years been used without a problem in a unlcoked (Virgin supplied)
    Samsung C100.

It seems to be SIM related so perhaps for some reason not compatable
with the 6070 ? I've tried it OK in my 6300.

Perhaps a new PAYG sim from O2 is the way to go - do O2 supply updated
    SIM's for PAYG accounts ?

Only comment I can make is that a BTcellnet SIM (if you remember that
far back) and two different generations of (borrowed) O2 SIM work OK in
    an unlocked t-mobile 6070.

As a quick follow up to my own post and if it helps anybody in the
future a new O2 SIM was obtained without too much trouble (phone call
    and arrived next day).

This new SIM appears to work OK in the 6070 with calls being made as
    you might expect.

As to why the previous SIM wouldn't make calls in the 6070 but seemed
    OK in others I don't know !
