I have an O2 contract in my name used by my son who, at the time the
contract was taken out, was under 18. He is now 22 and out of university
and I would like to transfer the contract into his name so that he is fully
responsible for it. Having the charges direct debited from my account and
then him reimbursing me is inconvenient.
For obvious reasons my son would like to keep the existing number, so he
can't just open a new account in his own name
O2 say it is not possible to change the name on the existing contract.
They also say I cannot use a PAC code to transfer from one on-line account
to another so he can't set up a new contract in his own name and then
transfer the number
O2's suggestion is to transfer the number to a PAYG sim and then transfer it
to an account in my son's name. I do recall seeing a discussion about this
some time back. Has anyone tried this?
O2 tell me 'it may take some time after transfering the number to the PAYG
sim before a PAC code can be issued'. Does anyone have any experience of
doing this? What delays were incurred?

What about just changing the bank account number?
Don't know about transfering to PAYG and back to contract, something
similar got suggested a few years ago when I wanted a better
deal/handset, so I suggested if I was PAC'ing out, I'd just move it to
an Orange sim, suddenly o2 could work a more sensible way...

I transferred my O2 number in my name to a vodafone account in my wife's
name, PAC issued, no trouble, less than a day. Went for a SIM only 30
day notice contract and used old phone.
If O2 make it difficult to stay with O2 - go elsewhere.

Absolute rubbish. I changed the account holder (from a limited company to
me), and the payment details, and IIRC the invoice address all in one call.
I was a little surprised that it was so easy (because one could simply
hijack an account), but it went fine.
Ring them up and try again...

Why do you think that anyone on this group can change a decision made by o2?
Your post is a total waste of time as you have already been given the answer
to
your questions. If you do not accept what you are told go elsewhere.
Use your common sense. Let's hope your children are not as helpless as you!

I have many pages of correspondence with O2 on this matter. Apparently, for
whatever reason, you can only transfer business accounts not retail
accounts. That is presumably why you were able to make the change.

You f***ing arrogant tosser! You haven't read my original message properly.
I never suggested that anyone on this group could change O2's policies.
Indeed I have accepted O2's decision and I am contemplating taking their
advice. I quote from my original post (which you have deleted from your
reply to give credence to your own stupid views).
O2's suggestion is to transfer the number to a PAYG sim and then transfer it
to an account in my son's name. I do recall seeing a discussion about this
some time back. **** Has anyone tried this? ****
O2 tell me 'it may take some time after transfering the number to the PAYG
sim before a PAC code can be issued'. Does anyone have any experience of
doing this? **** What delays were incurred? ****
So, all I have asked if anyone had tried what O2 have suggested and whether
they encountered any problems or delays.
Let's hope you have no children since I fear your stupidity might be
hereditary!

If I might be considerably more subtle than usual I might suggest that
your presence here is not advantageous to this NG.

Ask O2 for PAC and transfer number to a PAYG SIM from another provider -
get your son to register this new SIM in his name.
If your son wants to return to O2 contract ask new provider for PAC and
search-out the best phone/contract deal and start as a new customer.
If your son does not need a new contract/handset suggest staying on PAYG
depending on amount of likely usage - Asda are very good with calls to any
network at just 8p/min, SMS at just 4p, and data at 20p per MB.

Hey, Calm down dude!!
The guy's obviously a Troll... Ignore him, and do your blood pressure a
favour!!
)
FWIW, in line with some of the other posts here, I can't believe that you
can't change the name on a contract. What happens if somone gets married...?
They MUST be able to change the address and banking details, so surely the
name can also be changed.
If I were you, I'd ring up CS again, and hopefully you'll speak to a less
ignorant/lazy representitive this time...
