Motorola L2 - Problem?

Have just purchased an L2 (apparently new) on Orange with an
orange sim in the box.

No matter what sim I put in it (have tried Orange, Virgin & O2)
it keeps telling me to insert the sim.

Any idea what's up? have I bought a duff or blocked phone.

Quick replies appreciated as I need to locate a replacement if
it's stuffed.

Have now discovered that the pins in the Sim card holder have
been bent and my gentle attempt to put them back has (obviously)
resulted in the breaking.

So, question for the experts is can it be fixed?
