I am going to Canary Islands for Christmas and want to take my laptop with
    me.
I do have a T-mobile data contract but this does not include roaming data so
I will get charged by the MB.

In Spain the two main telecoms companies are Telefonica and Movistar. Does
anyone know if either of these companies do a pre-pay sim card that is
    usable for data please?

No but Vodafone ES do. €20 buys you 200Mb, €40 buys you
400Mb and €60 buys you 1Gb. It's known as 'Bono'

Wow that sounds like a great deal Alfonso. I would imagine 200mb would be
    enough for one week only.
Where can I buy these sim cards from please? Do the telecoms shops sell
    them?

    I just checked this website
    http://www.spainsim.com/voda3gSIM.htm

It seems the prices are different here for bono.
    25mb for 40 euros
    200mb for 60 euros

I certainly wouldn't buy one in the UK. They are dealers who have to
make a profit. I bought my sim card from a newsagents near Malaga. It
cost me 24 euros and had 20 euros credit on it. This is the info that
came with it (sorry I got the voucher costs wrong!). I buy the 1Gb
ones which last me up to 3 months of daily use.

Once the USB modem is connected to your computer you will need to
click on the Vodafone icon and select sms. Using the sms screen send
a text message to the number 207 with one of the three text codes
listed below. You can also place the SIM card into any unlocked phone
and call the customer service number 123 using your mobile phone.

You have can buy the following vouchers:

    Voucher Top-up Volume (Spain Only)
Basic 20 Euros up to 25 MB (100 sessions)
Advanced 40 Euros up to 200 MB (100 sessions)
Premium 60 Euros up to 1GB (4096 sessions)

    SMS Text Codes

    Voucher SMS Text Message

Thanks Alfonso, there are a few mobile phone shops and electronics stores
where I am going so I am sure one of them may stock the Bonos.
    Merry Christmas to you.
