I've been happily using a Curve 8310 (Enterprise edition) from Vodafone for
the last two years but this has developed two separate issues in recent
weeks, the first was with the BES failing to 'see' the device correctly, a
replacement device overcame this, however, the replacement keeps rebooting
(as if battery removed and replaced) and displays a JVM Error (Flash Write
error).
I've provisionally ordered a replacement (of same model) as I like the
functionality and facilities, however I'm entitled to an upgrade shortly and
was wondering if a switch to the Bold or Pearl (or other) might be a wise
move. Use is mostly Business - company Outlook Email / Calendar / Address
Book / Tasks, calls, texts and occasional browsing. Any thoughts greatly
appreciated - thanks in advance.

IMO stick with something similar to your Curve. We're rolling out 400
blackberries at work. I got to use a few different models. The Bold would be
the one to go for IMO. It's similar enough to the Curve not to be a massive
shock, it has a real keyboard etc. The Storm OTOH is the most awful device
I've ever used. That click-touch on screen keyboard is just *HORRIBLE*.

A JVM error can be rectified in 99% of cases by reflashing the
Blackberry to the lastest version of code (latest for Voda Curve is
4.5.0.55). As you're using a BES, I gues you have an IT department who
can do this for you?
If you like the curve, why bother getting a toy phone like the pearl?
Either get another curve, get a bold, or wait a couple of months until
Voda have the new curve in stock (looks live a Bold but without 3G)
Don't bother with the Storm.

Thanks Mike, appreciate your comments. Yes agree with you re. the Storm and
the Bold is certainly of interest, though at first glance seems not too
dissimilar to the Curve. Assuming the Curve replacement works as it should,
I may decide to stick with that until such time as another
Business-orientated device comes along with sufficient improvements to
warrant the change.

Bold (or Pearl 8900 ("Bold lite") if you are on a budget, but no HSPDA).
The Bold adds all the connectivity the Curve lacks and both have much better
screens.

OTOH the Storm is c**p, although stilll better than the iPhone it is trying
to emulate. Unsuitable for business and I suspect cumbersome to use.

Don't go for the pearl, stick with the full-keyboard models, ie the
Curve range. The 8900 is out now, looks very nice indeed.

Yes, I'd second that. I have a pearl myself, but that's out of choice
because it fits in my pocket better and I rarely use it to type with. It
gets used as a phone more..

Thanks. I just checked the Test Certificate ('This certifies that the
enclosed 'exchange' device has undergone an end to end test as defined by
Vodafone UK, prior to despatch') that came with the replacement device and
it states that the device comes loaded with the latest version software
V4.5.0.55.
As mentioned previously, I've ordered a replacement Curve 8310 for the
moment which arrives (tomorrow) 30/12, I'll report back here if it works as
it should.

Many thanks. Will wait to see if the replacement Curve (arriving 31/12)
works correctly and then make a decision regarding possible upgrade.

Thanks again to all who replied. BES Activation successfully completed just
now and no signs of the JVM Error 547 after 24hrs running. Think I'll stick
with the Curve 8310 for now and may consider the new 8900 when Vodafone
eventually stock this.
