how to switch my number to another phone

Well I have a LG vx3300 and the screen is broken so my mom gave me her old LG vx6100. I called customer service to switch my number onto the xv6100 and they said I needed to have a password?!?! They never set me up with a password when I purchased my plan! Since my dad bought the phone for me, he has to go down there to us cellular and set up a password and while he's doing that he might as well just switch the damn phone!! errr....im venting...haha okay well Im done....pointless...lol

There is other personal info you can give them other than his password to access the account.
My son did it last week with Sprint, and they also gave him his own p/w to access our account.
