I've been wondering if this was possible too. If anyone knows how to set up an internet vmail box, please post.

I did it with my VX4400 and audiovox 9500 by connecting the headset jack to the 3.5mm microphone jack on my computer and recording the message.

Just get a stereo 2.5mm male phono to 3.5mm female converter at radioshack and use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable to hook it up to your PC. It works like a headset without a mic.

When I did it, I used a 2.5mm male jack and wired it up myself, so you may have to reverse the polarity in order to get it to work.

Another way to do this is if your computer's modem has voice phone capability (many do). You can call up voicemail through your computer and record off the modem sound output.

Are you wanting to copy a single message or do you want to route all your phone calls through your PC as a backup? I have software that keeps track of all my phone numbers and copies messages and such to my computer... if someone can't reach me at one number it merely goes down the hierarchy until it "finds" me... then I decide whether to answer the call or let the answering machine record it... That might be more than what you're seeking though I'm thinking? Largeprimes suggestion should do it for you...

Large Prime - Your approach is exactly what I tried to do earlier today, using a patch cord connected between my phone and the microphone jack on my laptop. But it's not readily apparent to me how I specify the file name that I want to record to. What do I need to set up to accomplish the fact that my input is the sound coming thru the microphone port, and my output is a new or existing file?

There's a much easier way to do this. Just sign up for YouMail. It's a replacement for Verizon voicemail. One of its features is the ability to save voicemails as MP3s. Oh yeah, and it's free. You can sign up at YouMail.com.
