get controll back of Lyrix Wireless
The rest of the Cellular B's in Montana
Pioneer/Enid Cellular
Buy out parts of Rural Cellular?
Ramcell
Cellular One of NE Pennsylvania
Bluegrass Cellular (highly doubtful)
Appalachian Wireless (highly doubtful)
Parts of US Cellular ?? (doubtful, but Verizon could)
Commnet Wireless (Yea Right!)

I'll have to do some research on them and see...

Wow that's some buying spree all right. And that's just the "wireless" side. I don't see MCI/WorldCom on your list but Verizon is currently bidding against Qwest for it at about $8 billion and counting.

Of course this really is an acquistion for the wireless side as well as wireline. Sprint runs their LD wireless over their own wireline LD network and so will Verizon.

Qwest is making MCI/WorldCom an expensive acquisition for Verizon by constantly upbidding the price. But Verizon's deep pockets will eventually win out. The question is what all this buying will cost Verizon's customers.

MCI deal is with Verizon Communications not the Cellco Partnership D/B/A Verizon Wireless.

Just about everybody knows that Verizon and Qwest are in a biding war even my mom knows this.

If Qwest would win the war and get MCI the guy at the Qwest Kiosk in Logan said Verizon would probably buy us both out!

Probably doesn't matter which Verizon corporate entity is doing the purchase. Wireless unit will no doubt use the LD capacity acquired to it's benefit. The growth engine of any telco right now is wireless and everything else is strategized based on what keeps the money flowing.

Yeah true pretty obvious. But probably a more important acquistion to Verizon's wireless future than any of the other acquistions based on it's impact in reducing costs and the amount of money to acquire.

Verizon's flurry of acquistions is reminiscient of WorldCom's growth by acquiring over 60 competitors large and small over time. Regulators sat by and watched WorldCom decrease competition dramatically in the LD market. So far it doesn't look like any different result in this situation. Verizon, as the #2 wireless player, is decreasing competition not by winning customers but by buying them. Very good outcome, if you are Verizon Corporation.

It looks like Verizon Communications will probably get MCI.
If that happens will Verizon Communications try to get 100% controll of the Cellco Partnership??
Vodafone wants to increase there ownership as well.

I would think that their next move would be to buy small sections from other providers in the areas that they can't get service to(last time I saw the map in a Verizon store, the northern US had lots of "no service" areas)

Areas where Verizon Wireless has no license to build a wireless network is mostly in the MidWest.
I think Veizon might try to get the Western Wireless network in KS and NE other airwaves from Alltel.

Companies they might acquire to fill holes are Cellular South in MS and Mid West Wireless in MN and IA. These will not be easy to get, but they can pull it off.

Verizon wants to increase data transfer by users - so maybe a company that specializes in data downloads (i.e., e-mails)

I noticed that Verizon has a HUGE presence in the Carribeans, especially in Dominican Republic. I think that they will concentrate more on establishing their foreign networks in the near future.

Just my $0.02.

I hope they buy out Alltel down in the southeast because they already use their towers. I would really love to see them get bought out. because the sales people at our local Alltel store are real jerks.

That would be cool if Verizon started moving to South America...hence creating a new "South America's Choice"!
