7, 10 or 11 digit calling????

I'm still kinda new to cell phones and I'm confused on wether I should be dialing 7, 10 or 11 digits. I live in Greensboro NC. I have nationwide calling all at the same price (except roaming). I had assumed the phone belonged to Greensboro and thus all Greensboro numbers would be 7 digit dialed. All other numbers would be 11 (1 + area code + 7 digit number) just like my home land line phone. Seemed to work when making calls in Greensboro.

I then loaned my phone to someone who took it to Virginia. I'd told them it was a Greensboro phone and to call me on it as if they were in Greensboro (7 digit dial). They reported when they called me that didn't work so they had to dial 11 digits. I assume they also had to dial 11 to get to Virginia numbers even when they were in Virginina. I'm not sure.

Given the problems I changed all numbers in the phone list to 11 digits. My test call worked calling Greensboro from Greensboro using 1 + area code + phone number. Is this a good way to make calls?

What does Verizon want me to do? I called their support number but I don't think the guy understood what I was asking. I really didn't get an answer.

In searching online I now see that I might be able to just use 10 digits. Haven't tried that. If 10 works, is there ever a need to use 11?

Yes that would be 10 digits number to dial weither its local or long distance at all the time at anywhere in the US. Basically you'll be using airtimes in any way number you dial in like Toll Free, Local number.. In some situation like my local call area Im able to dial 1 then local 7 digits nbr, but that still doesnt mean that is free call, and Local and LD will be always using ur airtime as you begin send button to process the call. 8008008000 is the common way to make all any kind of calls. Most phone will automatically dial with 1 and it doesnt req'd you have 1 with area code plus 7 digits number. Whichever is at your convience either with 1 or without.
