Will korean cdma phones work with verizon?

A friend's mom is in korea on vacation and can bring back some phones for us if we'd like. There are quite a few cool looking ones. I spoke with a few verizon reps, and from them I've found out that if the phone uses the same frequency bands, then it technically should word. They can try to program the phone for me but basically no gurantee.

That won't help me too much since once the phone is here, I can't return it (and they might be pricey). So I'll need some way of knowing beforehand if it'll be compatible. What can I look for? I'm pretty sure if I get the ESN in advance, I can give it to them to check out. Is the phone guranteed to work if the ESN checks out ok with their system? What else can I look for?

The phone in question is the samsung sch-v840.

Phone can't be serviced on VZW

1st it probably does not have GPS to do E911

2nd It does not have PCS (1900 MHz) only DCS (1800) {Some CDMA providers call this KPCS "Korean PCS"}

Are you absolutely sure about #2? I called and I found that SKT (telecom company in korea like verizon) has verizon listed in their roaming lists. Does this mean that even without gps you can still roam?

ok I've pretty much confirmed there is gps. I asked a friend of mine and he said all the phones in korea have gps.

I know that some phones now have GPS so that must be one of them

I am absolutely sure about #2
Verizon and SK Telecom roam on eachother with Cellular 850 MHz so that is ok but Verizon requires all phones to do CDMA on both Cellular and PCS.

If you live in a market where Verizon VZW is a only a PCS provider, that phone won't be able to pick up the network, it will only roam on the Cellular provider network if there is CDMA.

That phone would not work in Dallas TX at all because it can't pick up Verizon network and it can't pick up the Cellular provider's network in Dallas and that is Cingular.

Verizon is more than likely not going to activate a non-Verizon phone.

none are provided by verizon

if u do decide to buy a krn phone

feel free to ask me to translate anyhitng

Verizon will not activate nor flash any phone that's not branded by them, so even if you found one with PCS 1900, you might be able to activate it but not all the features will work.
