Best smart phones from verizon?

Hi all, I'm currently studying up on smart phones since I believe this is what I want to go with in March when my current contract is up. 2 years ago I just bought any old phone but now I really want a phone that will have everything I need. The only one that really catches my eye right now is the Motorolla Q but even that phone seems to get so so reviews. I like the blackberries and even the cheapest one is the same price as the Q except it has no camera. I'm lookign for:
  • Camera and video recording
  • Loading mp3's from my pc as ringtones on my phone
  • Calendar/scheduling tools(this is why I'm leaning towards the smartphones)

I can't say too many other features are must have. I really don't plan on getting a blue tooth headset or using my phone for email or internet browsing since I find it too slow and not worth the extra fees. This may make a smartphone seem pointless but I really do want something geared towards keeping schedules and helping me keep track of things because this will be the biggest need of all. Thanks a lot for the help and feel free to list any suggestions as well as new/upcoming/rumored phones that would fit my needs. Thanks for any help!

My personal recommendation is the Palm Treo 700w. There are numerous reasons, but the primary reason is functionality There is no other Smartphone available that can do everything the Treo can. The phone is full function, and it has all the bells and whistles that any good PDA should.

The only issue you might have is with the loading of your own MP3 ringtones. Verizon limits your ability to do this.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I did some research and checked out phones and that one really caught my eye. I'm not sure which one but I like 680-700's and hope the price will drop some by march. I know it won't go far because MS will want their cut on their apps but $400 is sitting a little steep right now. Thanks for the suggestion.

From what I hear that the 680 will never be avalible on the verizon network. I was hoping it would be because I would get it in a second but from what I hear the 680 is not compatable with the network. Its a shame because they were only gonna be going for 180!!

Re: Best smart phones from verizon?

Any of the Verizon phones should have a calendar that you can set alarms to go off, if needed at a certain date\time.....I do that on my current brick of a phone
(VX8000) to remind me of conference calls and such...

I was trying to decide between the Q & the Chocolate phones myself....I just am having trouble justifying (extra cost of phone & data packages) what the Q can give me. It does not have a MP3 player, does not have wireless (b or g) and does not have a touchscreen......

I just got a chocolate and I love it. It does have the MP3 function on it, calendar and alarm. But it is not a smartphone compaired to the Q and treo. I would like to have a treo but in the end... the 100 something a month is not really worth it to me because my job does not require it. Plus the smartphones tend to be a lot bigger. The smartphones are very appealing but in the end I really just wanted a cellphone with some extra functions. I don't know if that helps at all.

My boyfriend just got the treo 700 and we are mac users. The treo does not work with isync via bluetooth. I am not sure how it works with the cable though. I am sure it works fine. I like the treo much better then the Q though. If between the two, I would go for the treo.

Re: Best smart phones from verizon?

I'm thinking your not really looking for a smart phone....just one you can set dates with in the calender. I bet if you bought the Q, and did not get a data package, you would feel you were not getting all the phone can do (how I think about it, anyways):

" $99.99 Price with new 2–yr activation on Voice and Data Choice Bundle $79.99 or higher."

so if you don't get the package as stated above, it will cost you 199$ for the phone.......big price to pay if you are not planning on using the data\broadband functions.....
