#16 | | Newbie | Ok folks, Here is the official, unofficial directions to download mp3 ringtones to the Verizon Krzr phone. This is from personal experience and it works. You don't need a cable, or the verizon software or the motorola software. All you need is software to cut the mp3 to 20 seconds or less. I tried 30 seconds from other forums but it did not work for me. I use Audacity to cut the mp3. Ok here are the steps.
1. Email an attachment of the 20 second mp3 clip to your (10 digit phone
number)@vzwpix.com
2. This will come up on your phone as a pix message.
3. Open the message and your mp3 will start to play
4. Select options and save your mp3 to save sound
5. Your ringtone should now show up in myringtones and be available
6. You can delete the pix message
7. You can only email one ringtone at a time, but at .25 each that's alot
cheaper than Verizon's 2.99 for crap tones
Hope this helps!
PS. This also works with the Chocolate, however you choose "save as ringtone" on it. It also can be a longer running mp3.

#17 | | Newbie | I got the DL from Verizon. If you have the SW Version 24.1_00.25.0C, then you are screwed like me. There is a glitch so you cannot set a specific ringtone to a person along with the vibrate. The specific ringtone doesn't work if vibrate is set to on.
As for loading ringtones, I've read and done about everything there is on the web and I am not able to load my own ringtones. I called Motorolla and they said Verizon has removed all capabilities so you buy their ringtones.
I send to my phonenumber@vzwpix.com, I rigged the MPT to view the Melody tool, tried bluetooth, you name it, nothing. I think Verizon changed it so all I get now is a txt message saying I have a PIX message waiting and I have to go to vzwpix.com to view it.
This KRZR is my first high tech phone and never spent so much time trying to crack anything in my life. I like Verizon service, never a dropped call, but their phones suck ..... money grubbing punks.
If anyone else has a new idea of a crack, sad to say I'm still interested.

Call Verizon Customer Service and have them put back the filler feature that they should have put in when V-Cast was removed. Your Pix messages will go through perfectly once that feature is active.

#19 | | Newbie | Thanks for the info. I was removed so I was able to get the pix and I saved the sound, but it's under "my sounds" section. How do I get to use it for a ringtone, to be under "my ringtones"?

If anyone else has a new idea of a crack, sad to say I'm still interested. | just because vibrate is turned off under tools/sounds does not mean when you hit volume button on the left side to vibrate that it doesnt vibrate...it still vibrates. so turn vibrate to off under sound settings. Use mobile17.com or go buy a ringtone maker at a store and use your own mp3's to make your own ringtones under 30 seconds. then email them to your "10digitphonenumber@vzwpix.com" and save sound. it will show up in your ringtones folder under get it now. save the tone to your phone memory not the card...then set the tone to your contact. if the above vibrate mode is not set to "off" it will not play the tone set for your contact.
sounds complicated but it does work...works fine for my krzr. hope this helps

#21 | | Junior Member | Well I went through and read every post on this thread and had some similar problems but got it to work on a friends phone. The quality wasn't excellent like you would get from get it now but for free it can't be beat. I mean my phone is usually on silenece from class and I just forget about it and leave it on silence or vibrate. I also went through and read reviews on teh software and it seems like the sound quality isn't anything great even if you pay. Using Audacity and that PVCONV (the .exe) seems to work like a charm so I just home it works good on my VX8600 when I get it.

#22 | | Newbie | I was able to send myself the ringtone clip to myself. I let the phone play the sound then clicked option to save the sound. It did not give me an option where to save it whether in the ringtone or sound folder. The only option I was given was to what I wanted to name it. After I saved it the only place I was able to find it was the phone sounds folder. Is there a way around this? Maybe through some software or something?

#23 | | Junior Member | Heres my thoughts:
I have the new white KRZR and has the newest software. I was able to transfer files to the phone using mobile17.com and this software called bitpim. The sound files put on my phone were placed in the MySounds crap folder. There was no way to set it as a ringtone.
Solution? I am guessing there is a specific key extension to the file to separate a ringtone from a normal mp3/ MIDI whatever. Maybe changing the suffix and trying to transfer <audiofile>.RNG or similar will make it happen. Something makes the ringtone go into a separate database on the phone. We just have to figure out how.
This is annoying as hell. Verizon is brutal with all the extra charges. $3 a ringtone is BS.

#24 | | Junior Member | One more thing....
I was messing around on the GetitNow for new ringtones and there was a link on the top to "manage" ringtones. When I looked at all the ringtones on my phone, there was the name of the ringtone and then either (RingTo) or (Master). For example: Wind Chime(Ringto) or Limelight(Master). Maybe this means something...

there is no "Set As" option as there is when you navigate to tones in the "My Ringtones" folder.
| My phone has the same options. When i gothe song and highlight "propeties" it say the sond is in "QCP". Should it be "MP3"? maybe this is where im going wrong. Im using 'AUDACITY" to comvert my MP3's into 29 second ringtones. Can anyone help? | | |

#26 | | Junior Member | OK...I have finally figured it out on how to put ringtones on my KRZR. I have read and read all the forums out there busting a few brain cells. You will need a program to convert your MP# song to a ringtone. Im using "AUDACITY" for this one. After you have figured how to create your ringtone make sure its no longer than 20 seconds.(a must) Once you have your 20 second ringtone , send it to " yournumber@vzwpix.com ". ONce you get your message, open it and then click "options" then "save to sounds". If you have done this then you should have your ringtone in your "my ringtones" folder. I hope this help out a frustrated ringtoner.

#27 | | Newbie | I tried sending the ringtone (exactly 20 seconds) and was able to successfully get it and hear it and save it, but it's saved as a sound and not ringtone. What software version are you running?

Im using the program "audacity" but any ringtone converter would work. Whe you converted your 20 sec. ringtone did you make sure you saved it as an MP3?

#29 | | Junior Member | I think what he is asking is what software version is on your phone? Mine is 24.1_00.25.0C and it is like Fort Knox. Any technique I use it will put the audio file in the MySounds folder, not the MyRingtones folder.

#30 | | Junior Member | Ok I figured it out actually. There are two ways that i did it.
1.) When I got the audio file stuck in My Sounds folder:
I then resent the sound file to "Picture Place." It shows up at your vzwpix.com account. You can then drag and drop the audio into a message through vzwpix.com When the message appears, use the "save sound" option and it will show up in your ringtone folder.
2.) the other way you can do it is manually upload sound files at vzwpix.com and then send it to your phone.
I have the newest version of the KRZR as stated on the previous post. Just make sure the sound file is under 20 seconds and in MP3 format.
