What video formats does the VX8600 support?

I cannot find any mention of this spec in the guides supplied with my new phone, nor on the VZW or LG web sites.

When I load .wmv files onto the microSD card and play them, I get full sound, but the video doesn't play as video; it plays as a collection of stills.

TIA,
George

Verizon phones currently only support .3g2 video files, nothing else.

Thanks, Paul, but after searching LG's website, I found a data sheet for this phone. Please see vx8600 datasheet

It says that the phone supports MP4, 32GP, 3G2, and WMV, and the photos clearly show the Verizon logo on the phone.

George

super does encode stuff pretty quick. i'm finding 144-160kbs mpeg4+48kbps aac @15fps pretty acceptable. may have to tweak it a bit more, but its a bit of a chore with that little card.

The phone itself may be designed by LG to support those other formats, but Verizon's firmware only supports 3g2/3gp files.

Man, VZW makes it nearly impossible for customers to enjoy the features on the phones!

Re: What video formats does the VX8600 support?

For what it's worth, Verizon's policies regarding the firmware they put on their phones significantly limit or eliminate the possibility of customers really messing up their phones and constantly bringing them in for warranty replacement (even though most of those issues would not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty). It should be noted that those users, for the most part, who get the greatest use out of the features that Verizon removes from their firmware tend to be a little more technically inclined. This means that they will be a little more capable of implementing the various software workarounds available to them. They will also be more capable of fixing the phone problems caused by "tweaking" their firmware.

3gP (known as 3gPP) and 3g2 (known as 3gPP2) are virtually interchangeable file types, and either format will work on your Verizon phones.
