why would you pay for text messaging in verizon if you can do it free?

The main idea behing texting is doing it while on the go with your cel phone when you're not near a computer; computer's are for email.

There are enough relatively affordable packages available thru most providers that give you leeway per month to text 'whoever'. Most of the companies also have incentives for texting within their own network.

I agree with you completely. the idea is to do it on the go, but i find it amazing how many of my friends I've seen receive a text message right in front of the computer, and they reply to it on their cellphone. people do get plans for text messaging, but they are usually limited, for example, to 100 messages a month, and a lot of people go over this limit. this is just for those people that need it!

Why not just use Verizon's own Vtext.com? It supports all the messages that you send and receive on your phone. And, it is free to use.

Yep, that can be used too. You can't send a message to 10 people at once though.

...and how is that free?? if you send from ther to my phone then you are just charging me (either 1 out of network message or the going rate per message).
