New Phone time...Black Moto Q??

Well I've been here before...well I few months ago but now its getting close to crunch time. I really wana get a cell phone that helps me and does the things that I want. I've picked up the last two because it was a family deal but this time I have money and I'm in control (or atleast I feel liek it).

Anyway these are the things I'm looking for:
  • My music set as ringtone. I hate buying ringtones for twice as much as a song and then paying fees to even get access to them. The selection sucks and I want my own.
  • Camera/video recorder is definitely needed. I know most phones have these and teh big thing when I got my phone 2 years ago was camera. Well taking a video when my digi cam isn't around is also something I'm going for.
  • Last but semi most important is calendars. I really want a phone I can synch my outlook calendar to. I'm only in college but keeping up with assignments and just everyday things in life always get forgotten. I tried to use the calendar on my current phone and man what a waste of time. I could also do the task I need reminding to do in the time it takes to type a reminder message.

Anyways it looks like I'm leanign a bit towards a smartphone. I saw the motorolla Q and like it instore and sure it didn't have al the bells and whistles, but was still a nice phone. I read online and people didn't like it. Is it that bad or will i be find doing what I'm doing? I don't need internet or email or much of that just a calendar. Are there phone like the krzr that offer calendar synching from outlook? These are my questions. Thanks a lot for reading and I appreciate all feedback!

Re: New Phone time...Black Moto Q??

I think the Q would be perfect for what you want to do. It doesn't have as much stuff as the pocketPC or treo pda phones that verizon offers, but still runs windows mobile.

Your calendar can be synced. I have a cradle for mine that includes activesync.

The camera is 1.3mp, not the best out there right now, but it will do for your purposes.

Your music can be loaded easily on an SD card and then played in windows media player on the phone.

It's thin!

Yeh That's what I'mthinkin as well. I looked around at other phoens like the krzr and LG VX8600 and they too are running 1.3mp cameras so that part I don't feel like I'm missing out of. Keeping my schedule is one thing I would really like out of a mobile devide. The big screen really doesn't hurt either. Thanks a lot for the feedback. i think I'm gonna head up to a Verizon store tomorrow to see it in person...maybe make some calls and ask them what all phones they have that will do what I need. I think I'm almost set on the Q though. I just hope I don't run into any hidden or additional costs! Thanks a lot for the feedback!

Re: New Phone time...Black Moto Q??

In my short lived time with a Q, I wasnt too impressed... But I also have a 700p for comparison (which left me feeling empy when I had the Q in my pocket). My biggest requirements out of the phones were email, wifi (or EVDO) Contacts, and calander as I am a "computer guy".

The Q did everything I needed it to, but I wasnt very fond of the mobile Windows. It seemed to bog the phone down (locked up a lot). Call reception was another gripe about the phone. I was constantly dropping/fading in and out of calls. Battery life was better than the Treo though.

All in all, the Q will do everything you need, and then some. But there are many other phones offered that will cover all of your bases. If you have the money to spare, Take the 700p into consideration. I would be lost without it
