In Need of Advice with Prank Calls

I am being seriously harrassed by someone on both my cell and home phone. I have received threats, hang ups, and down right nasty voice mails. It really has taking a toll on me physically and mentally. I did find out through a friend at the phone company that the phone number is for a pager plus prepaid phone but no name is listed for the phone.

I did contact my local police department. The officer I spoke with made me feel kind of stupid concerning my problem. He informed me that a prepaid phone can not be traced, nor are there any records to subpena due to the fact that there are not contracts with these phones. He basically told me not to answer my phone.

I myself have a pager plus prepaid phone abd gave my name upon activating the phone. Please don't quote me here, I am totally confused when it comes to technology. I think pager plus is connected with Verizon somehow. My friend is with Verizon and she tells me that the call is free. I must be with Verizon somehow because calls from 1 Verizon member to another is free.

My question (s) are:

Is the police officer I spoke with misleading me or is his information correct.
Is there anything that I can do about this situation. I've change my number and still receive calls from the same number.

I would appreciate any advice anyone can give me.

Re: In Need of Advice with Prank Calls

Talk to the supervisor at the police. They can do more if the calls are abusive, and if you changed numbers and the person got your new number, that is getting into that category.

PagePlus does use the Verizon network.

It is harder to track prepaid phones (I'm not sure my name is on my PagePlus account; I bought it from an online seller), but it isn't impossible. They can figure out from the network where the person is by triangulation or via the phone's built-in GPS receiver (newer phones have these). They may not know who he is but they'll figure out where he is.

A visit by the police might do wonders to stopping this abusive behaviour.

I'd suggest you call PagePlus too and let them know they have an abusive customer. They may talk to the customer or terminate the service.

Document when and where they call. Try to save the voicemails. Dial *57 anytime you get an abusive call to trace it and log it. (It does cost some money; ask your phone provider.) I don't think *57 works on cell phones but it certainly works on landlines.

It seems odd to be getting the calls after you changed numbers.

did you change your cell or your landline or both.

are you getting a number from caller ID, If so I would think the police would be able to do something with a number and the voicemails.

I must say leaving harassing voicemails, not to bright.
