Re: Anyone tried the LG VX8700?

so far so good. Like I said i went from a full charge at 10am to dead by the time i woke up the next day (7am). I then turned off the EVDO with my instructions above, and found that the battery life increased dramatically. I havent done it from a full charge yet, but it seems like i'll be able to get around 3 days out of a full battery, and thats about 50 total send/receive texts a day and maybe 30 minutes of talking.

I kinda want the extended battery (not as necessity, just convenience) but I feel like it wouldnt fit in my leather case then...

In short, if you plan to use VCAST, do NOT get this phone, it is about as mobile as a land line...

Hey thanks a lot. I won't use VCAST so will turn off the EVDO and even the Bluetooth. If I have to I'll get the extended battery but don't really want to. Really appreciate you sharing your experience with the phone.

Re: Anyone tried the LG VX8700?

I tried the Samsung u540 and it's ok, but the battery life was terrible (in my opinion) and when I told the guys at the Verizon store, they said it was using power all the time to connect to the towers. So if you live right next to a tower, you'll get better battery life than if you live where I do, out in the woods. If you live where I do, and you charge it on Saturday night, Monday afternoon it's dead even if you haven't used it. Oh, you can turn it off, but then it's not a phone anymore is it?

ALL THE NEW PHONES NEED TO BE CHARGED NIGHTLY IF YOU'RE USING THEM THE WAY THEY ARE INTENDED!!! If you are texting, browsing the web, getting music, or simply live outside a major metropolitan area and have less than perfect coverage...they won't last long on a charge!

If you're not using all that "stuff" then there's really no reason to buy a more powerful battery for the phone...

OK - THE SOLUTION !

After two phones, I moved over to an LG VX8700 and the tech in the Verizon store disabled the EVDO capability on the phone for me. Now we're onto something. I've still got half my battery power after four days!

Ok, I'm not getting all the Vcast music/video/web/etc...but I don't really want to pay for all that extra service when I have a computer and an ipod in my briefcase too...and they do music and video better than any phone.

Hope this helps someone...

I haven't seen one on LG's website yet, but you can keep checking for one to become available. LG VX8700 Accessories

Can you tell me how to turn bluetooth off?

That worked great. I have the extended battery but getting more battery life is always good.
UserInVa
1. Go to Settings and Tools
2.Click to Bluetooth Menu
3. In the lower left of your screen you will see "set on" or "set off". Choose "set off".

Re: Anyone tried the LG VX8700?

I've had my 8700 for a couple weeks now and I love it. Turned off Bluetooth and EVDO (with help from here) and it is doing good. Battery does go down a little faster but doesn't bother me so much. If it does, might try the extended battery. It does get warm though. It's a great phone.
