#1 | | Junior Member | It looks really nice, albiet kinda expensive. I am upgrading my phone in about a month, I was wondering if the 8700 is as nice as it sounds, or if I should stick with my original plan of the 8600. Thanks!

#2 | | Newbie | Hi. Not a tech person. Don't know anything about using forums or gadgets on phones. Just thought I'd share. Got the 8700 because I needed to upgrade to a bluetooth for navigation in a car. Love the reception. Live in a bad area. Only phone anyone in my house has been able to use at home in 20 years. However, taking it back tomorrow. Had it two weeks. Battery life is terrible. Sits in my pocket for nine hours on vibrate. No calls. Battery dead when I get home.

#3 | | Junior Member | that sounds almost like a defect... 9 hours standby in today's world of cellphones meant it almost doesnt even have a battery.
Standby time is 240 hours, usage time of 200 minutes. If you like the phone, I'd exchange it for another and try that before giving up on it. Thanks for the input though!

I'm taking the phone back tomorrow. Will try another. I like the reception. I'll keep you posted about the battery situation.
Thanks,

#5 | | Newbie | Can anyone recommend a Verizon phone that has good reception other than the LGvx8700 with it's quick battery death?

I live in a "bad area" as well and my phones were consistently draining the batteries down, due to the constant signal fluctuation between 1X and EV-DO. To stop this I keep my EV-DO turned off during the times when I am not using Verizon's VCast services. Doing this, I have noticed that my phones are now able to utilize an extra 3 days of battery life in between charges.
If you really like your 8700, I would recommend that you try turning the EV-DO off on it and see if this improves your 8700's battery life.
To turn EV-DO off on LG handsets:
1) Hit menu, 0
2) Service code: 0 0 0 0 0 0
3) Hit #3 for "network select"
4) Hit #1 for "mode preference"
5) Select 1X only and press OK.
6) Hit the power key to exit out of the menu and you're done.
***If you ever do *228 to update your PRL, you will need to reset the 1X mode again, by doing the steps that I have listed above.
You may want to look into an extended battery for the LG 8700 as well. If you still want to exchange your phone, I would advise that you go into a Verizon Wireless store and speak to a representative and see what other phones they sell that have been reported as having better battery life.
Hope this helps. |
This is a great post, Thanks. I have been planning to upgrade to the LG 8700 but stalling because I had heard about the battery issue before (I think from a user review on CNET) and that would be an issue for me. So turning off the EV-DO is a great idea, I'd never use it anyway. Do you have other ideas on saving the battery life? And, is there an extended battery for this phone or was that a suggestion to research and find out...
Thanks again. | | |

But because of the high resolution display, and the fact that it only comes with a 800 mAh battery, you may want to consider purchasing one of LG's OEM extended batteries for the 8700. I haven't seen one on LG's website yet, but you can keep checking for one to become available. LG VX8700 Accessories | Another Thank You is in order, I just bookmarked that site and also sent a question to them about extended battery availability now or in the future. (The regular batteries are out of stock at the moment...hmmm) And the suggestion of turning off the bluetooth is very appreciated too, because it's another thing I won't use. (I just like the phone)
Many thanks. | | |

#9 | | Newbie | On the Verizon website you will find an extended battery and cover listed under the accessories for the LG VX8700. They seem to be LG original parts.

#12 | | Junior Member | Hey mobileprincess-
Just got my 8700, seems very nice except the battery is already being a nuisance. This shortcut I cant get to work. I hit menu, but hitting 0 or holding 0 or hitting 0 seven times doesnt do anything. Suggestions?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what does "with door" mean...

Thanks for asking. |
THANKS! I wonder if it looks different or made out of the same material. I am planning to get the phone in the next day or two so will ask them. Every time I go to the Verizon store it has been packed.
Thanks again for the information.

Any response to my problem? I cant turn the EVDO off with the steps you gave, the 0 key doesnt seem to do anything, and my phone is lasting about 20 hours on a charge... with only 15 minutes of talktime and 20 text messages. Thats kind of a problem.
