Blackberry/Smartphones without Data Plans

I was recently offered a Blackberry as a replacement to my current VZW phone which doesnt come with a data plan.

I was wondering if its possible to activate the BlackBerry without having to subscribe to a data plan. I would just like to use the device as a phone and a calendar application without web and email access.

Yea, you can do that. I just got a XV6700 from a friend and had a VX9800. The only thing you can really do is keep the same plan only use the "pay as you go/ pay per KB" But if you won't use the internet then your monthly plan should stay the same.
