Anyone get the warranty on their calling plan?

I renewed my verizon yesterday, got my new phone etc..

I saw that they offer different insurances, a $2 one for if your phone malfunctions, $5 one for if u drop it, and a $6 dollar one if u drop, lose or its stolen but they have $50 deductibles so it seems that add up the per month fee and the deductible its not worth while.

What have been your experiances with these warranty/insurance things they offer?

lose, break, or get your phone stolen, and that free phone(if you got the free one) that came with your plan, turns into about a 300 dollar paper weight. 50 dollars is cheap caompared to getting a new phone. They will not replace your old one if something happens to it and you havent completed your 2 yrs yet. I got my KRZR for 150 dollars but with my new every 2 time. if i lose it or break it i have to pay the full amount to get a new one. (if i didnt have the insurance) which i do. ill give up the 50 bucks.

Re: Anyone get the warranty on their calling plan?

I have always had insurance on my phones since I started with Verizon 8 years ago. I have only ever used it once, and it saved me about $250.00 (not counting the monthly fee, which, let's be honest, even at $5.99, you spend more than that on coffe each day!)

Here is the real breakdown of the insurance options, as you bobbyd3 is close, but not quite correct.

$1.99/month = Manufacturer's warranty extension. Only covers you for defects in parts and workmanship in the 2nd year of the contract. Those of you on a 1 year contract are wasting your money.

$4.99/month = Basic insurance. Covers you if your phone gets broken, water damaged, lost or stolen. Yes, I said water damaged. Don't listen to the nay-sayers who tell you that nobody covers water damage. Verizon's arrangement with Asurion does cover water damage. Replacement requires a $50.00 deductible.

$5.99/month = Insurance + Warranty extension. During the 2nd year of your contract, should anything go wrong with the phone that is not caused by abuse of breakage, it would be replaced for free, under the terms of the manufacturer's warranty (meaning in store replacement). Also gives you all the coverage of the basic insurance. Insurance replacement still requires $50.00 deductible.

I hope that clears up any confusion you might have about insurance. It is most definitely worth it on phones with full retail pricing over $200.00 (do the math; 24 months x $4.99 = $120.00 + $50.00 deductible = $170.00).

Verizon has a new Hand Set Satisfaction policy. If you are having problems with it (after warranty period) there is a 1-800 # you can call. they will trouble shoot it over the phone with you. If they can't fix it, they will send you a refurbished one for $50. You then mail yours back to them after you get the refurb. one. This is the same way the insurance works. So rather than pay the $$ every month, if the phone is not working correctly, I would just do this. This obvisouly won't work if your phone is lost or stolen. Another thing to look into is, I "believe" you can go to target, walmart etc. and pick up one of their pay as you go phones for about $70. Just DO NOT activate it at the store. Take it home, go online to Verizonwireless.com and activate it yourself. Or call verizon, they'll help you. I'd rather do this than to pay for insurance. Personally, I don't feel it's worth it. Again, that's if your phone is broken, not lost or stolen. If it's lost or stolen and you don't mind an exexpensive phone, go the target route. IF you have a real nice, expensive phone, I guess I'd get the insurance. That way if it is lost or stolen, you can get a new one.
