#1 | | Phone Addict | One of the last times I spoke with a rep @ VZW, I asked about nights starting earlier, like some other companies do. The rep told me that alot of other people were starting to ask about that too. The main answer was that the tech dept. said right now it would put alot more stress on the network with the huge addition of people that would be trying to make calls two or three hours earlier than the current 9:01 time.
Anyone know, or hear, anything about this? It would be nice to know they weren't holding out just because they have (what's reported to be the best) reception and a vast amount of towers.

This is very unlikely to happen anywhere in the near future. Although it is true that there would be more traffic in the network is peak times where changed, it really wouldn't affect the network that much, at least in my opinion. However each cell company has certain perks that give extra benefits with there service, for some companies it is earlier night and weekends. You may also want to check more into that, most companies charge an extra fee for nights to start earlier. It could be more cost effective to upgrade your plan to the next highest minutes, in most cases it is only an extra 20$ a month which would support you making more calls before 9. You also have to look at the quality of the network with the other company...take sprint for example, there customer service sucks, the company is losing more customers than its gaining, and there service is horrible. (I have had sprint for years so I have the right to pick on them). However if you want those earlier peak times, go for it... personally when I use my phone and hit send, I want it to work... so the benefit of being the most reliable network is better than earlier peak times in my opinion.

#3 | | Phone Addict | Hey Spike,
I agree with you 100%. That is one reason why other networks (mainly Sprint/Nextel right now) offer that option; what is it - $5 to start at 7:00 and $10 to start at 6:00?
I have no problem with how it is now, I just hadn't heard if that was something on Verizon's plate.
What I do know is on their plate, is the ability to use most ANY phone on their network by the end of 2008! That is pretty sweet. Hopefully the unlocking of the phones will allow use on CDMA.

#4 | | Phone Addict | ya unfortunately its not on the table right now.
even though verizon agrees the $5-7 a month is still profit for offering this, they still have no plans to implement it.

Hopefully the unlocking of the phones will allow use on CDMA. | Man, I've been driven up the wall with the new "add any phone that's compatible with cdma network to verizon" scheme. The official date of this starting was Feb/14/2008 and only VERY select phones are able to transfer over from sprint, cricket, etc. HOWEVER, there is a HUGE runaround. You have to do to a verizon store, ship the phone for 3 weeks, and then hopefully they'll grant you your new "verizon" phone. I heavily doubt that Verizon will be able to activate any of the never phones even by the end of the year because as far as I know, Verizon is communicating with Sprint (the next big CDMA leader) on what phones they're ok with for activating on Verizon's network. In short, the new "add any phone on verizon" is just a gimmick

Kinda, sorta a technicality...
