Shopping for a new phone and have narrowed the field down to the LG enV and the Samsung SCH-u740. I'm leaning more towards the enV right now, because I like the larger keyboard and the separate number keys on the front. But I like how the u740 is a clamshell and has a larger screen. I think if the enV had a larger screen, that would seal the deal. I haven't used any of them, and don't know anyone that has. My current phone is an LG VX-6100. Is there anything that I need to know about those two phones that would push me in one direction or another? Or is it simply personal tastes at this point? I like the idea of a full qwerty keyboard for texting, although I don't do a ton, I do enough to make the standard number keypad for texting inconvenient. TIA for any help.

    Re: Comparison

Well, I ordered the enV today, in green. I figured I'd get too frustrated trying to type on the u740, and trying to dial on that combined keypad would be a pain too. Although I liked the u740 being smaller in size, a clamshell and having a larger screen, I know myself well enough to realize that the keyboard setup alone should be a deal-killer. I'll let you know how I like enV when it arrives. Thanks for your reply Ellen.

OK, phones arrived today, 1 enV and 2 VX5400s. How can I transfer the contacts from the old phones (VX-6100) to the new ones? I imagine I'd need to buy a cord or something, or can I take it into a store? Or is there some other way?

You can take it into the store, and they will charge you a very modest fee to transfer the numbers over.

Or, depending on your plan, Verizon now offers a free service called: Backup Assistant.
It's a great little program that you download via GIN (Get In Now).

It will automatically copy all of your contacts and store them on Verizon's server's for you. If you ever lose your phone, or upgrade, all you have to do is download the program again (for free) and then have the program put all your contacts back on your phone. It's that easy.

For somebody like myself who manages 300+ contacts, this is a fantastic program that Verizon offers.

    Re: Comparison

That does sound like a good idea. I guess it's a bit late for me now, since I've already activated my new phone. I haven't tried, and my old phone is at home right now, but I doubt it will work since the new phone is active. I will have to look into that though for next time.

Is it worth purchasing the USB cable? Can I do the transfer myself that way, and then also load up music and/or pix? Or is the cable not worth the $20?

    Re: Comparison

What about the USB cable? Is that a viable alternative? If it runs $12/phone, I have 3 to do, so by the math it is if the cable is only $20. But can I do what I want to do (transfer contacts, upload pix and music) with it?

    Re: Comparison

I would do as Ellen said and register for Verizon's My account. It's free, and once you have done that, you can download the back up assistant's on all the phone's for free and have it do it.

If the phone's are no longer active, then you are going to have to find a alternate method of getting the number's off each phone. Yes, a USB cable would work, but, you are going to need one for each phone, or, find the drivers for each online and load them one at a time and do the transfer's that way.

You will like the LG XV9900 (the enV)...I have been using one since it came out and before that I had the 9800 (the V). I just ordered the new LG VX10000 (The Voyager). I am definately stuck on these phones....and they just keep getting better.
