Need to Pick a New Phone

I have a Motorola 815 which I love and adore ...but I snapped the antenna and it isn't long for this world. I'm up for my 2yr renewal so I have $100 towards another phone.

I've looked at the Motorola Motorazr V9m, the Voyager and the Blackberry Pearl.

I wouldn't mind having email capability (we have Verizon email and I have a gmail account as well) and web wouldn't hurt! :-). Dh is totally opposed to the extra monthly charges for these so I'm going back and forth. He has a Blackberry for work so he isn't lured the same way I am!

What would the extra charges be for the Blackberry? For the Voyager? We will be upgrading our family plan to the new "nationwide" family plan for both of our phones if that makes any difference.

I'm not all that interested in music. My 815 has this capability and I don't use it now. I do like having the ability for a removable memory card...we've used that a lot to transfer photos... but it's not a deal breaker.

I do not need GPS (we have a separate one).

Anyone have any guidance towards a good phone? I've combed through pages of reviews for the above three phones but I'm having a hard time comparing them and making a decision.

Thanks!
Christine

Re: Need to Pick a New Phone

my thoughts on the v9m are not good.. it seems to have a smaller battery and a larger display thus running the battery dead faster. I have heard many complaints on this. The pearl had some problems freezing due to a memory leak which should have a fix if not already out. also would need a data package if u chose the blackberry adding another $29.99 to your monthly bill. The voyager in my opinion is going to be a great phone for what u are after. It will have the email and web capability just make sure u chose the right plan so you don't get a huge bill

Chosing the right phone is finding a phone thats right for u. it is very hard for someone else to know what is right for u. Best of luck with whatever u chose

The blackberry peral or world edition are great phones. But if you decide on a smart phone you need to get a smart-phone plan or your money well go to waste...

I recommend you go into a verizon store and play around with the phones. The voyager is a good choice if you want multimedia and a qwerty keyboard but don't need WM6 or blackberry software. If you rather have something smaller, check out the lg venus.

Re: Need to Pick a New Phone

I picked up a Blackberry Pearl in pink on Friday. Tomorrow I will have had it a week and I really LOVE this phone. It is perfect for me. Dh is still grousing about the extra data charge, but I think it is worth it!

I did go to the store and check out the phones. I didn't like the Voyager at all. The touch screen was cool, but to browse on the internet you need to either have nails or a stylus to scroll up and down a page. I would have just ended up using the inside screen w/ the directional key...which makes the whole "cool factor" of the Voyager kind of useless.

The V9m was okay, but I really liked the email/web options on the Blackberry and I'm glad that is what I went with.

Im glad ur happy with the pearl. I too have switched to the pearl and have had it about a week. the internet does seem faster then most pda devices I have used. taking me a bit to get used to the 2 letters per key... grrrrr thankfully the predictive typing works quite well
