Purchasing used cell phone

My mother was wanting to purchase a used flip phone to replace her current Nokia brick she uses. She was not wanting to purchase a new one. I know my provider uses GSM sim cards and I just purchased an unlocked phone off of ebay. I know Verizon does things differently. Sooo.... My questions are:

- Can you buy a used Verizon phone to use on an existing account?
- If you can, how do you transfer the service to the new/used phone you purchased?
- If you can transfer it, is there a way to do it yourself or do you have to take it to a dealer?

Yes, you can activate a used Verizon phone on Verizon. Easiest way for you is to have your mother call tech support and they will make the change and walk your mother through activating it.

OK, sounds good. I just read an article that states that you should make sure the phone is not stolen or has unpaid balances on it first if you are purchasing from ebay so I will do that. Thanks!

two things here before u buy a new phone. yes u can activate a used verizon phone on a verizon account. however u stated that your mother uses a gsm service.. Verizon phones are cdma and will not work on your mothers service.

Actually, my phone uses GSM, hers does not. I didn't learn this until after I did purchase and unlocked GSM phone. It's all good, though...My wife stated she wants it.
