Prepaid Laptop Cards

I am a part time storm chaser (meaning when a storm comes to my area i will chase, but i dont chase across country for a living). I have a laptop program that downloads all sorts of weather maps from the internet. My problem is that I dont do much of anything in the Fall and winter months and an annual laptop card contract is out of the question. I have roomates that share a cable modem connection at our apartment. Someone suggested to me to get a connect card and just run off of that. It is 2x more expensive to get a connect card and I cant justify that expence increase.

My question is this: Does any carrier you know of have a prepaid connect card? I know prepaid is not as good of a deal as a contract but it will pay off if i only use it when i need it. When i do a google search i see that other countries do this but no american carriers that i can see.

I appreciate any comments or suggestions.

EDIT: I forgot to mention two items above:
1: I am a verizon wireless customer of 6 years and would like to try to stay with them on this issue (because I have been really happy with their service)
2: I would like to say that if i ditched my current ISP, then it would leave my roomates without internet service.

You are right; there are no prepaid aircards. However, you can still do the same thing with your existing Verizon Wireless account (which I'm assuming you have since you're posting in the Verizon forum).

Just add the Broadband Access Connect feature for $59.99. If you remove the feature before midnight on the same day, you most likely won't be charged for the feature (and even if you are, you'd only be charged $2 since you only had it for one day).

I never thought of doing that. It would probably work just as long as you don't forget to cancel it.
