An issue with an lg8100 on verizon

I am with Verizon and have an LG8100 phone which I've used for 2 years. I am located less than half a mile from a Verizon 'tower' (which is actually inside a church steeple). For reasons unknown to me, within a 2 block radius (more or less) from my house, the phone drops every single incoming call - it shows sometimes no bars, sometimes 1 or 2. I answer and within 5 seconds it drops. Verizon has checked the phone several times. Other spots within a mile seem to be fine, and when I travel I never drop a call.

Last weekend I had four cousins visiting and they all were able to make/receive calls in my living room and I was ready to take a hammer to my phone and pound it to pieces. I am eligible to upgrade the phone now and am trying to figure out how to get a new phone that will allow me to make calls from my home. I am NOT blaming Verizon for the problem. I hate the thought of going to the phone store, getting a new phone, then finding out it is no better than the 8100.

I would appreciate any suggestions on a new phone. I don't care about mp3, or super fancy features. Thank you!

I love my 8300. It has comparable features to your 8100, and looks similar. Works great, too.

Although, it's not sold anymore. If you want one, I'd try eBay.

Also, about your cousins being able to make calls: Are they Verizon customers too? If so, I would find out what phones they have and if they're happy with them.

Unfortunately cousins are all on AT&T. My wife is on AT&T also and she makes calls fine from the house.

If you can't find the LG 8300, I would recommend that you check out the LG 8350. It's a nice phone that gets great reception. I have poor coverage in my house as well with Verizon, and I always get one or two signal bars in my house, with absolutely no dropped calls at all with the 8350.

Thanks! I will check it out. I'm trying to find someone else in town who has Verizon who can come to my house and test it.

Have you tried doing *228 option 2? It is possible it does not know about the tower. Yes, I know there is a debate on this but in some cases that fixes the problem. Just make sure, your in an area that has a strong signal. I would do *228 1, when done reboot the phone. Then do *228 2, when done reboot the phone. 228+1 programs the phone and set some things back to their default. 228+2 program the preferred roaming list.

The reason I am suggesting a full programing, is maybe your Home sid (System Identification Number) got messed up or got changed or is old.

Option one on some phones will reset the security code back to the last for digit of your telephone number.

I tried the various *228 options and no luck. I spoke to Verizon about it and they recommend a new phone. The rep suggested Motorola as they are supposedly good at fringe reception (1/2 mile from a tower?). Could anyone comment on how good Motorola phones are in general in terms of good reception in "fringe".?

If you are having problems using *228, try this.

Your phone is set incorrectly. You need to go into setting a change automatic a or b or automatic b to a. then dial *228 choose option 1 and reboot phone when it is done programing, then dial *228 the choose option 2 when it is done updating reboot phone.

If you still can not use *228, then you need to drive in to a Native Verizon and try it again.

Before driving there is two more thing you try.
Try forcing PCS in the options menu. This will force it to use the 1900 band but you could roam more.

The other option is
Change the sid to 80 in the nam setup. It may or may not work. Remember the original sid, you may have to change it back.
