Smart Phones

So I just switched over to Verizon from AT&T and quite frankly I absolutely hate it. The reception is terrible (atleast for the Kansas City area) and most of the phones are crap. And what makes it worse is the fact that if you want a cool phone (ie a smart phone) you have to pay an extra monthly cost to keep it activated. Pretty ridiculous.

Well, what I'm wondering is:

Are all of the smart phones like this? I remember the Rep telling me that for the Centro, Treo and Blackberries you had to pay an extra fee each month, but what about the rest of the phones? I've been looking for a cute used phone on eBay and my attention keeps turning to the Audiovoxes with Windows on them. Does the same monthly bill apply to those as the Palms and BBs?

If those also have the monthly cost, what's a used phone that you would recommend?

So what ellens saying is only the blackberry requires the $30 extra data plan...no othersmart phones.

Myself i'm kinda looking forward to the new touch berry thats coming out...might finally have a phone that i will keep for more than 6 months.

i use a samsung 760i on verizon and just use the pay per kb but dont access internet much. I check my email every now and then and rarely have data charges over a dollar or two, but icould see if you started browsing they would add up quickly and def be worth the data plan.
