intermittent broadband question

I have a Voyager and a family voice plan. I have no need for internet on a phone at home, but I plan on making 3 trips within the next 12 months. Each trip will be a month and the place I will stay has no internet connection. And, I do not want to do dial-up.

I would like to have an internet connection to my laptop. I could get a usb modem and pay full price to avoid the commitment or I could tether.

Either way, UI would like to add the broadband service, quick after a month, and repeat this each time I make a trip.

What is the cheapest way to do this? I know tethering is slower but that doesn’t matter.

You can add a tethering feature to your account for 59.99 for gb of usage on the internet, as long as you are in a broadband coverage area it is not slower than a usb modem. they run the same speeds. You can add/remove this feature at anytime by contacting customer service.

I am happy to hear and I can add/subtract without activation fees. I don't understand this part. Do you mean that I can tether no matter what, but that it might be slower than a usb modem?

With a usb modem, I need to pay activation fees and perhaps have closing fee so it would be more than $59 a month the way I want to do it (off and on).

no im sorry. Let me clarify. Usb modem and tethering will get you the same speed no matter which you use, one is not faster than the other. Your speed will be determined by your coverage area. If you are in a broadband coverage area you will get download speeds for aprox 500mb to 1.5mbps, and if you are in a national access area you will get speeds of aprox 100kbps to 300kpbs. Getting a usb modem would reqire signing up for a extra line, and new 2 year or 1 year contact. so if you only need it some times it would be best to get a tether modem so you can add/subtract the feature when needed.

While you are mentioning this, if I bought a usb modem at full price, how much would it cost for me to activate it each time I Wanted to use it? The price hten would be $60 plus activation fee for each month.

Also, can I do it this way or does verizonwireless require you to sign up for more than a month at a time?

IF you purchased a usb modem, when activating the line of service it will require a min 1 year contact, no matter were to equipment came from. You may also have a 30$ 1 time activation fee.
