iPhone On Verizon: Up to Apple?!?! Especially with the iDon't Campaign
Well, according to Information Week and Engadget, the iPhone decision may be up to Apple completely.
Ivan Seidenberg (VZW CEO) stated, "This is a decision that is exclusively in Apple’s court." That basically means that Verizon Wireless will accept an iPhone now, but that it's up to Apple whether one gets made. Personally, I feel knowing Verizon, they'll have the last word in the decision.
When asked if a Verizon Wireless iPhone will exist in a quarterly earnings call, he stated:
Quote:
This is a decision that is exclusively in Apple’s court. We obviously would be interested at any point in the future they thought it would make sense for them to have us as a partner. And so we will leave it with them on that score. What they have done has been successful, so we have to sit back and give them credit for that. Our view is to broaden the base of choice for customers, and hopefully along the way, Apple, as well as others, will decide to jump on the bandwagon.
What about "there's a map for that" or about the iDON'T campaign. Hopefully Apple can forgive Verizon for this intelligent marketing. If you don't know what I mean, you can view the two youtube videos posted below.
If Apple does decide to become a Verizon Wireless partner, the earliest an iPhone device on Verizon Wireless will be would be in 2011 or 2012 at the earliest.
Well, Verizon Wireless has just taken their "There's a map for that" campaign one step further. I just received an email from Verizon Wireless. It is copied below:
Map does not guarantee coverage, contains areas with no service, and generally predicts where rates & outdoor coverage apply. Equipment, topography and environment affect service. Coverage comparison based on square miles covered. New 2-yr. activation required per device. Storm requires an email plan or voice plan with email feature. Versa requires Nationwide Calling Plan. Rogue requires Nationwide Calling Plan with Data Pack $9.99 or higher or Nationwide Premium or Connect Plan. Hurry! Limited time offers. Order online and get: FREE overnight shipping & FREE activation (Friday through Monday)

I'm still not sure of the point of having an iPhone 3G with AT&T.
Verizon Wireless isn't pulling any strings or "lying" in any way about the coverage from AT&T 3G you see above and on the commercials...it's actually completely true.
It is able to be argued about Verizon Wireless having a "more reliable network" because that's something just written down that anyone can claim. Well, with the "there's a map for that" campaign...it's real...and unable to be argued with.
I'm just waiting for AT&T to sue Verizon for using their "copyright maps" on Verizon's commercials...unless AT&T (for some odd reason) released the copyright to their maps to Verizon...hmm.
Verizon sued Sprint for a very similar campaign.

iPhone for Verizon would rock. And none of the red Vcast sh.. on the iPhone. The iPhone won't be crippled. Bluetooth and everything will work. Just as the GSM version. No extra Verizon crap in the iPhone. Apple better make that clear to Verizon.
