I did actually purchase a Samsung Rant from a guy at work. No funny business here. He did not like Sprints service so he purchased a pre-paid phone elsewhere. When I tried to activate the Rant, I was told it was still active under another user. I asked my coworker to deactivate it, but when he tried, he told me Sprint would not do it because he was still under contract and the status of his account is "suspended." He gave me the $ back and said to keep the phone cuz he has no need for it. So, I have a perfectly good phone that's not in use. Any ideas on how to deactivate it?

Sounds to me like this phone was stolen, seems how he gave you the money back and didnt want the phone back. I would be careful if i where you.

Thanks for your concern, but I guarantee you, the phone is not stolen. I work with this guy every day and our job gets us a nice discount when we use Sprint as our carrier. And, and he got the phone for free with the promotional rebate.

Until he pays Sprint off they aren't going to release the phone. Period. He's still under contract (even if they've suspended his account for non-payment) and they want their money.
Of course, if you paid him enough, he could use YOUR money to pay Sprint...
