I just wanted to clear some things up.
The 3G Mobile Hotspot feature is free for any phone that has the ability to act as a WiFi hotspot for other devices. This has been confused by CNET, who just claimed on their review of the DROID X that it is an additional $20.00 per month. It is FREE and is included with the cost of your data plan of $29.99 or higher, which is generally required.
This isn't a joke. Go to the Verizon Wireless website, add the DROID X to the cart, and proceed to checkout. The look at where it allows you to add features to your line. It will say 3G Mobile Hotspot $0.00.

Re: 3G Mobile Hotspot...Verizon Wireless
I got my 2,2 update today (incredible) which added the 3g mobile hotspot app, when i went to my Verizon account online to check-out the feature, it was 20.00 month add-on. It didn't show any signs of being free or part of my Unlimited Data Plan. It seems to be free with the palm as a lure.

Re: 3G Mobile Hotspot...Verizon Wireless
I just got a droid through Verizon with the required unlimited data plan. My phone shows the 3G mobile hotspot program as available. If I go to my verizon and click to see available things I can add - hotspot is grayed out. The FAQ for hotspot seems to imply it's only for Palm devices while the first faq says it's for smartphones and other devices. The FAQ says it costs $40 for 5 G. NOW - I was told I could not get the mobile broadband connect feature (tethering phone) with 5 G for $30 but could only get 2G for $20 and the reason was because I had a hotspot capable phone! Yet the site is showing I can't GET hotspot even though my phone has the ap? NONE of this makes sense. If I can't get hotspot then why should I be penalized with broadband connect because my phone is hotspot capable. At this point I don't understand any of this. We currently have satellite internet and would like to get rid of it but I can't get a straight answer on this. 2 Gigs is NOT enough - 5 would be tricky but doable since I also have unlimited data on my phone. does anyone really know what one can and can't get with the Droid Incredible??
