News: Vodafone 247 for India

In a recent press release, Vodafone Essar, announced a new solar powered handset for India called the 247. Price of the Vodafone 247 will be Rs. 1500 (that’s $32!), which is an amazingly low price.

The Vodafone 247 is mainly geared toward those who live in an area where access to electricity is poor or isn't up to it's potential. This handset comes as a simple basic phone that requires 8 hours of direct sunlight to fully charge. Once the Vodafone 247 has reached its full charge, it can last for 8 days of standby or up to 4 hours of talk time.

Being that the phone is listed at such a low price and is one of Vodafone's basic phones, the handset should sell pretty well and may become one of Vodafone's best selling phone in India.

The phone should launch sometime next month.
