OK, here's one for the experts/employees out there. My phone has that
old Cingular Live Ticker feature on it. You get headlines and a paragraph
about local, national, and sports news, and your local weather forecast.
Most of the time it is worthless because it is so outdated. I look at it
infrequently, and have on occassion pushed the More button by mistake and
incurred a 5 or 10 cent charge for accessing the internet. Not a problem; my
mistake.

I should point out I use my phone as a phone only; no internet, no
music, no photos, no nothing.

On my bill this month I had about 25 charges for data. They were all
small data transfers ranging from 3kb to 12 kb, with a total charge of
$2.70. I called Customer Service and talked to a lady who was nice and took
the charge off, but she tried to convince me that I was logging on to the
internet, and I tried to convince her that I did not, pointing out that I
did not do anything different last month than I did two or three months ago
I also told her that the AT&T website still says that this Ticker useage is
free. I am now convinced that I am being charged a data charge every time
this Ticker updates itself. Am I close? Anybody else notice a charge like
this on their bill this month? Thanks in advance for your answers.
